Shooting Woes Doom Barons in 76-47 Loss to Middle Georgia

Box Score

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Men's Basketball continued Southern States Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon with cross-state rival Middle Georgia in Gillis Gymnasium.

Shooting woes doomed the Barons (1-17, 0-6) in the 76-47 loss to the Knights (6-7, 3-2).

How It Happened

Middle Georgia opened the game with four points in the first minute and a half to lead early. The Barons answered with a tip-in bucket and a trey off a turnover to lead by one with 16 minutes left on the scoreboard.

The following two trips were split between both teams before Middle Georgia pulled away on a 16-0 run before Brewton-Parker was able to put points back on the board with seven minutes left in the first half.

Brewton-Parker managed to string together five points to pull the deficit to 12 but the Barons were unable to gain momentum on the offensive end to challenge the Knights. Middle Georgia continued to take advantage of BPC's missed chances and built their lead to 22 points with just over two minutes remaining.

The Barons closed out the first half on a 7-2 run, moving Middle Georgia's lead to 37-20 at the break.

In the opening five minutes of the second half, the Knights outscored the Barons 12-7 to lead 49-27. After a couple of trips that ended in fouls for both teams, the Knights finally found a bucket in the field to lead by 25 points with 11 minutes remaining in the game.

The second half remained a struggle for Brewton-Parker as the Barons could not gain any traction over Middle Georgia to muster a comeback effort. The Knights outscored the Barons 22-15 in the final 10 minutes of play. The deficit was too much to handle with not enough time left as the Knights captured the win 76-47.
