Barons Soar Over Skyhawks

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons basketball team hosted the Point University Skyhawks on February 21, 2026, at Gillis Gymnasium. The Barons dominated the Skyhawks, taking home an 80-64 victory to end the regular-season.

After a back-and-forth opening stretch that saw Point grab an early 9-5 lead on a 3-pointer from Tanner Higgins at the 16:22 mark of the first quarter, Brewton-Parker settled in defensively and gradually took control. Point briefly pulled even at 28-28 on another Higgins 3 with 2:55 left in the half, but the Barons closed the quarter on a 9-2 run. Garjah capped the surge with two free throws in the final 30 seconds to send Brewton-Parker into the locker room up 37-30.

Brewton-Parker carried that momentum into the second half, striking quickly to extend the advantage. Just 16 seconds into the third quarter, Melvin sliced through the lane for a layup that pushed the lead to 39-30 and signaled the Barons' intent to attack the rim. Brewton-Parker repeatedly got downhill and into the paint, eventually outscoring Point 38-12 inside while steadily widening the gap on the scoreboard

Midway through the half, Brewton-Parker's pressure defense and transition play sparked a surge that pushed the margin into the 20s. Jayden Hill's layup and free throw with 6:01 remaining made it 72-49, effectively breaking the game open. The Barons led by as many as 20 when Karsen Steinbarger converted a layup to make it 80-60 with 2:07 to play. Garjah paced Brewton-Parker with an all-around effort, finishing with 17 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Melvin added 15 points and eight boards in 22 minutes, helping the Barons control the glass.

The Barons get ready to head to the Southern States Athletic Conference, where they will face off against either Faulkner University (Ala.) or William Carey University (Miss.) on February 26, 2026.
