Box Score 2 MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker softball hosted No. 7 William Carey (Miss.) on Saturday afternoon to continue Southern States Athletic Conference action.
The Lady Barons (16-18, 5-11 SSAC) struggled in the doubleheader losses to the Crusaders (35-6, 15-3 SSAC), 9-2, and 10-3.
Game 1 | Brewton-Parker 2, William Carey 9
The Crusaders struck early with three runs in the first inning. William Carey connected for a single and then recorded back-to-back home runs to jump out to a 3-0 lead.
Brewton-Parker answered quickly with two runs in the bottom half of the first inning. Alexis Bradshaw led off with a single before MacKenzie Tripp notched an RBI double to bring home Bradshaw. Abbey Flowers then singled into left field which brought Tripp home for the second run. Josalin Whitten produced a base hit but both BPC runners were left on base to close out the inning.
William Carey added a run in the second with a base hit and an RBI single to lead 4-0. The Crusaders continued adding to the tally with another solo score in the third inning from a double followed by an RBI single to lead 5-0.
The Lady Barons struggled to make solid contact in the second and third innings but finally connected for a single from Erika Yatabe in the fourth but left two runners on.
In the top of the fifth inning, WCU produced another homer to increase the score to 6-2 over BPC. After a scoreless sixth inning, the Crusaders tallied three additional runs in the seventh inning to secure the 9-2 victory. William Carey connected for a pair of base hits followed by Mary Grace Turner's third homer of the game for the three runs and the game one win.

- The Crusaders outhit the Lady Barons 12-6.
- WCU's bats were hot with four homers and a double.
- Six individual BPC batters recorded a hit with Tripp recording a double.
- Both Tripp and Flowers recorded an RBI while Tripp and Bradshaw scored the two runs.
- Defensively, Whitten recorded 10 putouts while Olivia Whitt and Tripp recorded three assists each.
- Natalie Hardy started in the circle and completed all seven innings. She gave up nine runs on the 12 hits while striking out two batters and walking one.
Game 2 | Brewton-Parker 3, William Carey 10
William Carey continued its dominance into game two with a combined 10 runs scored in the first three innings. The Crusaders opened with four runs scored in the first, five runs in the second, and one run scored in the third inning.
Brewton-Parker produced just four hits across the second and third innings while leaving a total of five runners on base between the two innings. The Lady Barons finally put runs on the scoreboard with four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning.
BPC produced four singles which included a two-RBI single from Chloe Strickland to move the score to 10-3. The Lady Barons were held to just one hit for the remainder of the game which occurred in the fifth inning. William Carey closed out the game with four hits but left a total of six runners on base across the final three innings of play.
Inside the Statistics
- WCU tallied 17 hits while BPC totaled nine.
- Whitt led the Lady Barons with two hits while Strickland led with two RBIs.
- As for fielding, Madisen Nelson, Cailyn Snellgrove, and Abby Cox all recorded four putouts each with Tripp assisting five.
- Laykin Brown pitched for four innings, allowing 13 hits and 10 earned runs. She struck out one batter and walked one as well.
- Alexis Williams pitched for the final three innings, allowing four hits. She struck out two batters and walked three.

Brewton-Parker is scheduled to travel to Faulkner (Ala.) on April 11 for a rescheduled doubleheader at 3 p.m. ET.
