MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons softball team dropped their postseason opener against the Eagles of Faulkner University (Ala.) 9-3 in Decatur, Ala. The Barons fell behind early after a five-run first inning from the Eagles and were unable to overcome the early deficit.
The Eagles struck first following a leadoff single with a five-run first inning to take a 5-0 lead. The Barons would then give up four runs at the bottom of the second to fall in a 9-0 hole. The Barons tried to answer at the top of the third when Shelby Aiken, Destiny Lucas, and Anna Green all singled as the Barons plated two runs to trim the deficit to 9-2. Green would hit a solo homerun at the top of the fifth for the Barons' final run of the game. After falling behind early, the Barons' defense shut down the Eagles and held them to zero runs for the rest of the game.
The Barons will look to bounce back in the afternoon when they face off against the Skyhawks of Point University in the losers' bracket in a win-or-go-home game.
