MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons softball team was eliminated from the SSAC Tournament after a heartbreaking 6-5 loss in 11 innings on April 30, 2026, in Decatur, Ala., to end their season.
The Skyhawks struck first at the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead, but the Barons answered at the bottom of the inning when Tori Wright scored off an Anna Green sacrifice fly to tie the game at one. Morgan Willingham hit an RBI single to score Destiny Lucas at the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 lead. The Skyhawks would answer at the top of the fifth, scoring three runs to take a 4-2 lead. At the bottom of the inning, Willingham would score Lucas on a sacrifice fly, and Jenny Braddy would score off an error to tie the game at four. Both teams would play stellar defense and shut down each other's offense until the top of the eleventh when Point scored twice to take a 6-4 lead. Shelby Aiken would lead off the bottom of the inning with a double and later score off a Lucas groundout, but the Barons would be unable to complete the comeback and end their season.
The Barons will turn to the off-season and begin preparing for new recruits and the upcoming season.
