MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons softball team traveled to West Point, Ga., to take on the Skyhawks of Point University in a SSAC doubleheader on April 24, 2026. The Barons won game one off stellar pitching and a two-run homerun to take it 2-1, and rallied from behind in game two to take an 8-6 victory over the Skyhawks and complete the season sweep.
Game one saw the Barons rally behind the stellar pitching performance of Samantha Mathews. Mathews allowed four hits and one earned run over seven innings, walked one, and struck out five while throwing 90 pitches. The Barons struck first at the top of the fifth when Abby Banks entered as a pinch runner for Mathews and stole second to move into scoring position. Ayzsa Wooten hit a two-run homer to left field in the top of the fifth, giving the Barons a 2-0 lead. The Night Hawks would answer in the bottom of the sixth with a lead-off triple and an RBI double to cut the lead to 2-1, but Mathews and the Barons' defense closed out the game.
Game two saw the Barons strike early when Anna Green hit a two-run homer to open the scoring at the top of the first to put the Barons up 2-0. Point answered immediately with two runs in the bottom half, then surged in front with a four-run second inning. The Barons chipped away over the middle innings. Green drove in another run with a single in the third, cutting the deficit to 6-4. Brewton-Parker added two more runs in the fourth, one scoring on a catcher's error and another on Madisyn Hallar's RBI groundout, to pull within 6-5. Morgan Willingham then tied the game in the fifth with an RBI double.
Emma Warnock delivered the decisive hit in the seventh. After helping pressure Point throughout the day with two walks and two stolen bases, she lined a two-run single to score the go-ahead runs and give Brewton-Parker an 8-6 lead. The Barons were aggressive on the bases all afternoon, finishing with eight stolen bases while turning eight hits and five walks into consistent scoring chances.
The Barons begin preparations to face the Eagles of Faulkner University in the opening matchup of the SSAC tournament, scheduled for April 30, 2026, in Decatur, Alabama.
