MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons softball team hosted the Night Hawks of Thomas University in a SSAC doubleheader on April 18, 2026. The Barons took game one 5-4 and dropped game two 9-5.
Game one saw the Barons build an early lead with timely extra-base hitting. Madisyn Hallar delivered the early breakthrough in the second inning, lining a two-run double to put Brewton-Parker ahead 2-0. The Barons added another run in the third when Anna Green recorded a sacrifice groundout, with Destiny Lucas advancing and later scoring on an error for a 3-0 advantage.
Thomas turned the game in the top of the fifth. After being held scoreless through four innings, Thomas pushed across four runs, taking a 4-3 lead on a pinch-hit three-run homer. It was the key hit in Thomas' four-run frame and briefly erased the Barons' lead. The Barons would respond immediately at the bottom of the inning when Morgan Willingham hit the game-winning two-run home run to give the Barons back the lead. Maeleigh Burns closed out the game in the circle for the Barons, shutting down the Night Hawks' offense to take game one.
Game two saw the Barons score first, taking a one-run lead in the bottom of the first when Tori Wright scored on a wild pitch. The Night Hawks would respond with a three-run inning in the top of the third to take a 3-1 lead. Hailey Gabrich would hit a sacrifice fly at the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 3-2, but baserunning mistakes would end the inning. Thomas would add three more runs at the top of the fourth to push their advantage to 6-2. Defensive miscues would allow the Night Hawks to score again at the top of the fifth and make the lead 7-2. Alyssa Usrey would hit a two RBI double, and Shelby Aiken would add an RBI single to score Usrey and cut the lead to 7-5. A two RBI double at the top of the seventh would prove to be too much for the Barons to overcome, and their late-game rally would fall short.
The Barons will prepare to host the Grizzlies of Georgia Gwinnett in a midweek doubleheader on April 22, 2026, before their final conference road trip of the regular season.
