Lady Barons Take One from Middle Georgia on Tuesday Afternoon

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker softball hosted Middle Georgia on Tuesday afternoon to continue SSAC play.

The Lady Barons (21-21, 10-14 SSAC) split the doubleheader against the Knights (30-12, 16-8 SSAC) with a 4-0 loss and a 3-1 win.

Middle Georgia controlled the opening game of Tuesday's doubleheader with a 4-0 win over the Lady Barons in a game that was completed in just over an hour and a half.

Neither team could produce much offense through the first two innings until the Knights were able to score in the top of the third. MGA connected for a leadoff single and got on base via an error to assist in the run crossing the plate.

The Knights produced four hits for a pair of runs scored in the top of the fourth to lead 3-0. A double and three singles pushed home two runs as MGA also left three runners on base to close out the inning. Middle Georgia tallied one final run in the fifth inning with just one hit while also receiving another free base via an error from the Lady Barons to move to a four-run lead.

The bats for BPC took too long to produce as the Lady Barons notched two hits in the bottom of the seventh, but both runners were held back to end the game.

Game 2 | Brewton-Parker 3, Middle Georgia 1

Brewton-Parker flipped the script in game two by taking down the Knights with runs in the fourth and sixth innings to win by a pair. Middle Georgia opened with three hits and a run in the first inning to lead 1-0.

The Lady Barons managed to respond after three scoreless innings with two runs scored in the bottom of the fourth inning. Abbey Flowers, BryAnn Pound, and Savannah Cook produced three base hits for BPC while Alexis Bradshaw and Pound were the two runs scored.

The Lady Barons were also fortunate enough to get the first run on the board with an error from the Knights followed by the RBI sacrifice fly out from Olivia Whitt to score the second run.

Brewton-Parker added one additional run in the sixth inning with Tripp and Flowers connecting for singles. After two stolen bases, Cook brought in Tripp off a sacrifice fly out for the third and final run for BPC.

Inside the Statistics

  • The Lady Barons outhit the Knights, 6-3.
  • Flowers led BPC with two hits while Cook and Whitt were credited with RBIs.
  • Defensively, Cook totaled 11 putouts.
  • Laykin Brown pitched the entire game for BPC, allowing three hits and just one earned run. She struck out one batter and walked another.

Next Up

The Lady Barons face Faulkner (Ala.) at home on Friday at 1 p.m. ET before closing out the regular season with a doubleheader against Talladega (Ala.) on Saturday.
