Lady Barons Double Up for Season Sweep Over Blue Mountain

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Brewton-Parker softball traveled to Blue Mountain, Miss. to face SSAC opponent Blue Mountain (Miss.) on Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Barons (19-19, 8-12 SSAC) downed the Toppers (16-20, 7-14 SSAC) with two wins to secure the season sweep.

Game 1 | Brewton-Parker 4, Blue Mountain 1

Brewton-Parker struggled to find a hit through the first four innings of play while managing to place one batter on base with a walk. Blue Mountain connected for three hits split between the second and third innings but finally brought a run home in the bottom of the fourth.

The Toppers produced two hits and took advantage of a fielding miscue from the Lady Barons to help bring home the opening run of the game. BMC's lead was thwarted quickly as Brewton-Parker answered with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning to lead, 2-1.

Josalin Whitten connected for a leadoff single followed by Olivia Whitt producing a successful bunt to reach first base. BPC's first run was scored on a passed ball while Abby Cox produced an RBI single to bring home the second score. The Lady Barons connected for four hits in the inning and left three runners on base.

Both teams were held scoreless in the sixth inning, but the Lady Barons tallied two additional runs in the top of the seventh inning to secure the 4-1 win. Alexia Mays batted for a leadoff single followed by a double from Erika Yatabe. Alexis Bradshaw singled prior to Chloe Strickland dropping a two-RBI single to second base to bring home Bradshaw and Cox.

Inside the Statistics

  • Both teams recorded eight hits each with Bradshaw leading the Lady Barons with two hits while Strickland led with two RBIs.
  • Four individual runners scored for BPC with all four notching a stolen base as well.
  • Natalie Hardy pitched a complete game for the Lady Barons. She gave up one earned run on eight hits and struck out one batter.

Game 2 | Brewton-Parker 4, Blue Mountain 2

The Lady Barons struck first with a solo score in the opening inning of game two. MacKenzie Tripp recorded a single to right-center field before Abbey Flowers doubled to bring home Tripp for the early score. Blue Mountain notched a hit in the bottom half of the inning but left the runner on base.

After a scoreless second inning, the Toppers leveled the game with a run of their own in the bottom of the third inning. BMC benefitted from an error from BPC to reach base before connecting on a double to bring home the run.

The Lady Barons responded swiftly with a solo score to lead 2-1 in the top of the fourth. Tripp crossed home on an RBI ground out from Madisen Nelson. BPC added another run in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI single from Cox to lead, 3-1 over the Toppers.

Blue Mountain answered with a run in the bottom half of the fifth inning, producing three hits and taking advantage of an error from BPC to diminish the deficit to one run behind the Lady Barons.

Brewton-Parker scored one final run in the top of the sixth inning with Abbey Flowers knocking out a home run for the 4-2 lead. The Lady Barons managed to hold off the Toppers for the final inning and a half to secure the season sweep over BMC.

Inside the Statistics

  • Blue Mountain outhit Brewton-Parker 8-5 in game two.
  • Tripp and Flowers led with a pair of hits each while Flowers led with two RBIs and Tripp led with two runs scored.
  • Nelson led with 14 putouts while Tripp recorded five assists.
  • Laykin Brown pitched all seven innings, allowing eight hits and two earned runs while striking out one batter.
