Softball Splits at Faulkner

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Brewton-Parker softball traveled to Montgomery, Ala. to face Faulkner (Ala.) in a rescheduled SSAC matchup on Monday afternoon.

The Lady Barons (17-19, 6-12 SSAC) split the doubleheader with the Eagles (22-12, 10-8 SSAC) with a game one loss followed by a game two win.

Game 1 | Brewton-Parker 1, Faulkner 7

Brewton-Parker struck first with a run in the top of the first inning for the early lead. The Lady Barons took advantage of an error to reach base before Abbey Flowers knocked down a stand-up double to bring home MacKenzie Tripp. The Lady Barons' lead was short-lived as Faulkner responded with four hits and two runs in the bottom half of the opening inning to lead 2-1.

BPC managed to place two runners in scoring position as Abby Cox connected for a leadoff single in the top of the third inning. Cox then stole second and reached third via an error from the Eagles to land at third. Chloe Strickland was then walked but the Lady Barons left both runners on base with no change in score.

Faulkner added three runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull away to a 5-1 lead. The Eagles produced five hits and took advantage of a BPC miscue as well. Faulkner tallied two additional runs in the bottom of the sixth inning off a pair of hits as well as two errors from the Lady Barons. With the 7-1 lead, the Eagles held the Lady Barons off in the seventh to secure the game one victory.

Inside the Statistics

  • Faulkner's bats produced 14 hits while Brewton-Parker's produced just three.
  • Erika Yatabe, Cox, and Flowers led BPC with a hit each while Flowers recorded the lone RBI.
  • Josalin Whitten produced seven putouts at first base with Olivia Whitt notched four assists at second.
  • Natalie Hardy threw for all six innings. She gave up six earned runs, struck out two batters, and walked one.

Game 2 | Brewton-Parker 7, Faulkner 2

Brewton-Parker flipped the script in game two after Faulkner opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Eagles connected for three hits to lead 2-0.

The Lady Barons responded swiftly in the fourth inning as BPC tallied five hits for five runs while also benefitting from an error. Cox produced a double while Madisen Nelson, Tripp, Flowers, and Whitt all notched a base hit to boost the Barons to a three-run lead.

BPC crossed the dish two more times in the seventh inning as Cox batted another leadoff base hit followed by an RBI single from Tripp later in the batting order. The final run was scored from a sacrifice fly by Flowers to bring home Strickland. The Lady Barons closed out the game with a 7-2 lead over the Eagles.

Inside the Statistics

  • Brewton-Parker narrowly outhit Faulkner, 8-7.
  • Tripp and Cox led BPC with two hits each while Whitt led the Lady Barons with two RBIs.
  • BPC tallied six stolen bases with Cox recording a pair.
  • Defensively, Nelson totaled 14 putouts with Witt totaling five assists.
  • Laykin Brown pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs. She struck out three batters in the process.

Next Up

Brewton-Parker will continue to play on the road this week with a doubleheader at Blue Mountain (Miss.) on Thursday followed by a pair of games at Stillman (Ala.) on Friday.
