Box Score 2 HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Brewton-Parker Softball closed out its SSAC opening weekend on the road with a doubleheader contest at No. 7 William Carey (Miss.) on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Barons (11-11, 0-4 SSAC) dropped the pair of games to the Crusaders (22-3, 4-0 SSAC).
Game 1 | Brewton-Parker 3, William Carey 15
The Lady Barons struck first with a solo homer from Chloe Strickland in the first inning to lead 1-0. BPC pieced together two hits and left a pair of runners on base. William Carey responded in the bottom of the second with the equalizing run to level the score 1-1.
The Crusaders added three additional runs in the third inning to lead 4-1. WCU scored from a two-run home run and a solo shot homer to capture the lead. With Brewton-Parker struggling to produce anything offensively, William Carey's bats erupted with 11 hits to aid in scoring 11 runs to boost the lead to 15-1.
Brewton-Parker managed to string together a pair of runs on two hits but that was not enough as the game was forced shut in the fifth inning
Inside the Statistics
- William Carey produced 16 hits while Brewton-Parker recorded just five.
- Abbey Flowers and Strickland led the team with two hits apiece.
- Leah Henry, MacKenzie Tripp, and Strickland all scored for the Lady Barons.
- Defensively, Alexia Mays and Josalin Whitten both notched four putouts each.
- In the circle, Natalie Hardy started and pitched for 3.1 innings. Hardy allowed 11 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out two batters.
- Alexis Williams pitched for 0.2 innings and gave up five hits as well as five runs.
Game 2 | Brewton-Parker 0, William Carey 6
Willian Carey continued their dominance into game two with a 6-0 win. The Crusaders opened with a solo score in the first inning and added five runs in the bottom of the third for the 6-0 deficit over the Lady Barons.
BPC could muster only one hit in the second inning from Flowers. The Lady Barons left two runners on which would prove to be the only pair of runners to reach base for the game.
Inside the Statistics
- The Crusaders totaled 15 hits for the game.
- Cailyn Snellgrove led with six putouts with Strickland assisting three.
- Laykin Brown pitched for six innings and gave up six earned runs on the 15 hits while striking out six batters.
The Lady Barons move to 11-11 on the season and 0-4 in conference play. BPC returns to action on March 18 with a doubleheader at Faulkner (Ala.).
