Box Score 2 MOBILE, Ala. – Brewton-Parker softball traveled to Alabama to open Southern States Athletic Conference action with a doubleheader at No. 8-ranked Mobile (Ala.) on Thursday night.
The Lady Barons (11-9, 0-2 SSAC) dropped the pair of games to the Rams (18-0, 2-0 SSAC) 8-3 and 3-1, respectively.
Game 1 | Brewton-Parker 3, Mobile 8
Mobile struck early with a pair of runs in the first inning to lead 2-0. The Rams took advantage of a miscue from the Lady Barons while also producing three hits, closing out the inning with a pair of runners on base.
The second and third innings resulted in scoreless efforts with the Rams having an additional opportunity to score with a hit in the bottom of the third. BPC gave up another error to UM, but the Lady Barons forced the two runners on base to stay.
In the bottom of the fourth, Mobile added another run with a hit and a third error from BPC assisting the efforts to move the score to 3-0 with three innings to play. Brewton-Parker responded with three runs of their own in the fifth inning to level the score at 3-3.
Josalin Whitten connected for a leadoff single up the middle before Olivia Whitt was walked. Alexia Mays produced a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners just before Erika Yatabe singled to first base. With the bases loaded, BPC scored a run as Abby Cox was hit by pitch.
Chloe Strickland notched an RBI single through the left side to bring home another run prior to MacKenzie Tripp producing an RBI single for herself. Brewton-Parker recorded four hits and left three runners on.
The Rams came alive in the bottom of the sixth inning with five runs from four hits and another BPC error to essentially close the door on the Lady Barons. BPC was unable to produce anything in the top of the seventh, dropping game one 8-3.
Inside the Statistics
- Brewton-Parker's bats produced five hits and three RBIs.
- Tripp led with two of the five hits while three individuals notched an RBI each.
- Whitten, Whitt, and Yatabe all scored a run.
- Whitten was accredited for nine of BPC's 18 putouts while Tripp notched five of the 12 assists.
- In the circle, Natalie Hardy pitched for six innings and struck out one batter while walking two. She was credited for four earned runs in the game.
Game 2 | Brewton-Parker 1, Mobile 3
Both teams struggled in the opening two innings, splitting the two with a hit each. Brewton-Parker was in the best opportunity to score in the second as BryAnn Pound doubled to center field to open the inning. After Pound's double, BPC found themselves in prime position to score as a batter was walked and another was hit by a pitch. Unfortunately, the Lady Barons were unable to piece together a run.
In the third inning, both sides scored a run to make a level 1-1 score. Brewton-Parker scored the lone run by taking advantage of a miscue from the Rams. Mobile was also gifted an error to help the runners advance and eventually score a run.
The fourth and fifth innings resulted in a scoreless affair to keep the 1-1 score intact. The Rams utilized two hits to score two runs while also taking advantage of yet another error from the Lady Barons. Despite a miscue from Mobile, Brewton-Parker was unable to produce much offense in the seventh inning to eventually fall 3-1.
Inside the Statistics
- Brewton-Parker recorded just two hits with Alexis Bradshaw and Pound recording the hits while Bradshaw was the lone score that crossed home.
- Madisen Nelson notched nine putouts with Whitt recording four assists.
- From the circle, Laykin Brown pitched for six innings. She allowed five hits and an earned run. In addition, she struck out two batters.
The Barons move to 11-9 on the season and wrap up the weekend on Saturday at William Carey (Miss.).
