Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, S.C. –Brewton-Parker softball split its pair of games on the road at Columbia College (S.C.) on Tuesday.
The Lady Barons (4-6) captured game one 10-2 over the Koalas (9-3) but fell 5-4 in extra innings in game two.
Game 1 | Brewton-Parker 10, Columbia 2 (6 Innings)
Brewton-Parker opened game one with two runs in the opening inning from a two-run homer over the center-field fence from Abbey Flowers. In the top of the fourth inning, the Lady Barons added another run with Alexia Mays knocking in a run with a single down the left-field line to move BPC's lead to 3-0.
The Lady Barons found good fortune in the fifth inning, scoring four runs on four hits. BPC took advantage of the Koalas' mishaps as Columbia gave up two errors in the inning as well. With a 7-0 lead, Brewton-Parker added three additional runs in the sixth inning to move the score to 10-0.
Columbia finally responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning, but BPC was able to sort things out defensively and keep the Koalas from any sort of comeback effort, sealing the 10-2 win.
Inside the Statistics
- Brewton-Parker outhit Columbia 11-6 in game one. With the 11 hits, the Lady Barons recorded eight RBIs.
- Mays led the way with three hits and three RBIs.
- Alexis Bradshaw and Flowers led with two runs apiece.
- Defensively, Josalin Whitten recorded a team-leading nine putouts while MacKenzie Tripp recorded four assists.
- Natalie Hardy pitched for all six innings, striking out two batters on 24 at-bats.
Game 2 | Brewton-Parker 4, Columbia 5 (9 Innings)
Both teams opened the game with scoreless efforts in the first inning with BPC recording one hit and leaving two runners on base while Columbia left one runner on base off two errors from the Lady Barons. The Koalas scored in the bottom of the second to lead 1-0.
Not much was produced between both teams during the third, fourth, and fifth innings besides two hits from the Koalas in the fourth and fifth innings. The Lady Barons produced three runs in the sixth inning to lead 3-1. Tripp knocked out a two-run homer with Flowers following with a solo shot over the fence. BPC recorded three hits in the top half of the inning.
Columbia responded with a single run on two hits to make the score 3-2. Columbia quickly dealt with the batters for BPC in the seventh before adding the equalizing run to force extra innings. Both sides could not produce in the eighth inning, forcing a ninth inning.
Brewton-Parker found two hits and a run while taking advantage of an error from Columbia. Unfortunately for BPC, the Koalas heated up in the bottom of the inning with three hits, scoring two runs and walking off with the 5-4 win.

- The Koalas gathered 12 hits while the Lady Barons recorded seven.
- Flowers led with three hits while Tripp led with two RBIs.
- Madisen Nelson recorded 13 putouts while Chloe Strickland notched six assists.
- Laykin Brown pitched for 8.1 innings allowing four earned runs, walking one batter, and striking out one as well.
The Barons move to 4-6 on the season and return to Mount Vernon to host Cleary (Mich.) tomorrow for a 1 p.m. ET doubleheader.
