Box Score TALLADEGA, Ala. – Brewton-Parker Women's Basketball traveled to Talladega, Alabama to take on Talladega for the regular-season finale on Thursday night.
The Lady Barons (14-10, 8-8 SSAC) defeated the Tornadoes (16-10, 8-7) in an overtime thriller, 90-89 to wrap up the regular season before heading to the SSAC Conference Tournament next week.
"I'm so proud of my group tonight," Coach Steve Edwards said. "We had multiple players step up big time tonight. This game was so much fun."
"Both teams made runs and both teams really wanted to win," Edwards added. "We found a way to get it done in overtime. We look forward to post-season play starting next week."
How It Happened
The Lady Barons opened the first quarter hot with a 7-0 run in the first minute and a half before the Tornadoes were able to respond. Brewton-Parker added another big run to advance the lead to 13 with just five minutes to play. BPC went on an 8-0 run to lead 15-2.
Talladega managed to battle through the Lady Barons' hot offense, pulling the deficit down under double figures to close out the first quarter. Brewton-Parker outscored the Tornadoes 25-16 in the first 10 minutes of play.
In the opening couple minutes of the second quarter, Talladega found themselves just five points shy of BPC after going on a 7-3 run. Brewton-Parker quickly dealt with TC by pulling away to a double-digit deficit just a few moments later, leading 33-23 with 6:49 left to play in the half.
The Tornadoes held the Lady Barons to less scoring in the second quarter, but Brewton-Parker remained in control with a 10-point cushion at the break, leading 43-33. BPC narrowly outscored TC 18-17 in the second period.
During the third quarter, Talladega turned the tables on Brewton-Parker by outscoring the Lady Barons, 27-18. BPC floated around a double-figure cushion for most of the quarter until TC began finding momentum with less than two minutes to play. After not giving much room to Brewton-Parker, Talladega closed out the third period on a 12-3 run to knock the deficit down to just one point with the final 10 minutes of regulation left to play.
Talladega captured its first lead of the night with back-to-back jumpers in the first minute to lead by one, 64-63 The Tornadoes followed up with another pair of buckets to lead by five before the Lady Barons were able to respond. BPC outscored TC 14-7 in the next few minutes to eventually level the game and reclaim the lead with 2:17 left to play. Both teams traded free throws to close out regulation with a 78-78 tie.
In overtime, Brewton-Parker scrapped to win over the Tornadoes by outscoring Talladega 12-11 to seal the win by one point, 90-89. BPC was able to get its lead as high as three points in the overtime period, but TC fought hard to remain in the game. Fortunately for BPC, Talladega's second half was not enough to surpass the Lady Barons

- A total of five BPC student-athletes recorded double-digit points with Micah Bess leading the way with 23. Madison Evans notched 17 followed by Angel McRae with 15 and Cisley Copper with 13. Alexia Galloway gathered 11 to round out the Lady Barons in double figures.
- McRae gathered a season and career-high, 23 rebounds on the night another double-double on the season.
- Evans picked up a team-high five assists on the night.
- BPC shot for 41% from the floor, 25% from three, and 65.5% from the charity stripe.
- The Lady Barons dominated off the glass, outrebounding Talladega, 57-42.
