Lady Barons Down Fillies

TIFTON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University Lady Barons downed the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Fillies in a thrilling Southern States Athletic Conference showdown on February 12, 2026, taking down the Fillies 85-72.

The Lady Barons seized control with a 30-14 opening quarter, led by hot shooting from the perimeter and aggressive play on the glass, and never relinquished the lead despite a late push from the Fillies. Brewton-Parker set the tone from the opening tip, racing out to a double-digit advantage behind crisp ball movement and efficient offense. Sydney Beasley capped the first-quarter surge with two free throws in the final minute to make it 28-14, and Andrian Stewart immediately followed with a layup off a steal to push the margin to 30-14 at the horn.

The lead continued to grow in the second quarter as the Lady Barons kept the Fillies on its heels. Early in the quarter, Shamiaha Webb converted a layup to extend the advantage to 32-14, and the Barons continued to mix inside touches with timely 3-point shooting. With 1:34 left in the half, Ja'Ka'Yah Draughn drilled a 3-pointer to make it 51-27 to seal a dominant first-half performance.

After the break, the Lady Barons' perimeter attack helped stretch the game to its largest margin. Early in the third quarter, Chasity Degale knocked down a 3-pointer to make it 56-31, then buried another from beyond the arc to extend the lead to 62-34 with 5:53 left in the quarter. The Fillies responded with their best stretch of the night, outscoring the Barons 23-17 in their comeback attempt, but the early Lady Barons' efficiency proved too much to overcome.

The Fillies continued to battle in the fourth, trimming the lead to 70-59 before the Lady Barons steadied itself. Beasley answered with a layup in the paint to keep the Barons comfortably ahead. Degale then delivered a key dagger with 3:23 remaining, connecting on another 3-pointer to push the score to 83-67. Draughn closed the scoring with two free throws in the final minute, sealing the 13-point road victory and rewarding Brewton-Parker's poise in closing out the game.

Head Coach Steve Edwards reflected on the game, saying, "It's always good to win the first game on a road trip. We had really good moments tonight, but we are still learning how to be consistent. We will practice and get ready for Saturday."

The Lady Barons will conclude their road schedule of the season with one final game against Thomas University on February 14, 2026, in Thomasville, Ga., when they take on the Night Hawks before returning home for their final game of the regular season.
