THOMASVILLE, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University Lady Barons basketball team was defeated on the road, dropping the game 54-61 to the Night Hawks of Thomas University. Despite a second-half surge, the Lady Barons were unable to overcome the early deficit they fell into.
The Lady Barons outscored Thomas 21-10 in the third quarter, ramping up defensive pressure and creating scoring chances in transition. A 3-pointer from Ja'Ka'Yah Draughn off a feed from Jasmine Lenyard cut the deficit to three at 37-34 with 3:44 left in the third. Later in the period, Andrian Stewart knocked down two free throws to pull the Lady Barons within one at 40-39 heading to the fourth, capping a 22-point swing from the early second-half deficit.
The fourth quarter featured multiple momentum swings as the Lady Barons continued to battle. The Lady Barons drew even at 52-52 on a Sydney Beasley layup inside the final two minutes, briefly erasing what had been a double-digit hole. Thomas, however, capitalized on late possessions, converting from the perimeter and at the free-throw line to regain control down the stretch.
Draughn led Brewton-Parker with 15 points, including two 3-pointers, while adding three rebounds and two assists in 37 minutes. Stewart provided a strong two-way effort with 12 points, six rebounds, and a team-high four steals, helping the Lady Barons generate 17 steals and a 40-30 advantage on the glass
Head Coach Steve Edwards reflected on the performance, saying, "Road games are tough to win, and today we couldn't get it done. We had a ton of opportunities, but we didn't make the plays when it mattered the most. Our group faced a lot of external adversity today. I'm proud of the fight they showed today. We finish up the regular-season next week. I want us to have a little momentum heading into the conference tournament."
The Lady Barons will host the Point University Skyhawks in their final regular-season game on February 21, 2026, at Gilis Gymnasium, where they will honor their seniors.
