Lady Barons Fall at Conference Championship

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University Lady Barons basketball team competed in the opening round of the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament on February 25, 2026, and despite their best efforts, were unable to stop the second-half surge of the University of Mobile (Ala.) Rams, dropping the game 71-90 for a first-round exit.

Despite a solid first half that saw both teams tied at the break, a cold stretch out of halftime proved costly for the Lady Barons. The third-quarter swing had the Rams outscore Brewton-Parker 21-11 to seize control. The Lady Barons, who had matched Mobile shot-for-shot through the first 20 minutes, struggled to convert offensively while Mobile found its rhythm from the perimeter and at the free-throw line. Mobile closed the quarter with a 59-53 advantage, then put the game away with a 31-point fourth quarter.

Andrian Stewart led Brewton-Parker with a double-double, finishing with 13 points and 14 rebounds to go along with two assists and four steals. Stewart anchored the interior on both ends, helping the Barons generate second-chance points and providing a steady presence defensively.

Head Coach Steve Edwards reflected on the loss, saying, "We struggled all year, and today was no different. The postseason is for teams looking forward to competing for a championship, and that's not our group. We weren't very competitive this year, and that falls on me. Our school and our fans expect much more out of our program. It's my job to make sure we compete at a high standard, and that's what we will do moving forward."

The Lady Barons will turn to the offseason and look forward to the recruiting process. The coaching staff will work diligently to bring in the right additions to help improve the team for next season.
