Box Score NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Brewton-Parker Women's Basketball program faced (RV) Loyola (La.) on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Barons (11-8, 5-6 SSAC) were outmatched by the talented Wolf Pack (14-4, 8-2) in hostile territory.
"We got beat by a better team today," Coach Steve Edwards said. "Loyola outclassed us and dominated us the entire game. We look forward to getting some rest and getting everyone back before our next conference game."
How It Happened
Two free throws from Alexia Galloway opened the scoring for Brewton-Parker, giving the Lady Barons an early two-point lead. Loyola quickly responded to level the game before taking the lead with 8:30 remaining in the opening quarter. An and-one effort from Galloway gave the Lady Barons a one-point lead but Loyola answered yet again to reclaim control of the score.
The Wolf Pack quickly jumped out to a seven-point lead with just under six minutes remaining. Loyola found itself in a double-digit deficit shortly afterward, leading 21-10 with 3:10 left. Brewton-Parker closed out the quarter with a bucket from Madison Evans to move the deficit to 23-13 to close out the first period of play.
Loyola opened the second quarter with an 8-4 run to lead 31-16 at the 7:37 mark. Unfortunately, the Lady Barons struggled to stop the Wolf Pack and take advantage of the opportunities on the offensive end of the court. Brewton-Parker managed to pull the deficit down to 12 points but could not pull closer. In the second quarter, the Wolf Pack outscored the Lady Barons 25-16. Loyola closed out the first half with a 48-28 lead over Brewton-Parker.
The third quarter was the best of the bunch for Brewton-Parker in terms of scoring, but it was still not enough to surpass the tough Loyola side. The Lady Barons were outscored 26-24 in the period and were down 74-52 at quarter's end. Galloway picked up seven points and three boards in the period whit Samerria Bryant scoring six.
Loyola put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter with the continued dominant performance. The Wolf Pack outscored the Lady Barons 24-17 to wrap up the game with a 29-point lead and the 98-69 win.
Inside The Statistics
- Galloway led the way with 20 points followed by Keonya Mincey with 13. Bryant also gathered double-digit points with 10.
- Chardell Jones led the rebounding efforts with eight followed by Galloway with seven.
- As a team, BPC shot for 38.7% (29-of-75) from the field, 20% (4-of-20) from three, and 50% (7-of-14) from the charity stripe.
Other Notables
- Loyola outrebounded Brewton-Parker 43-39 on the afternoon.
- The Wolf Pack took the advantage in turnovers, outscoring the Lady Barons 21-15 off turnovers.
- Loyola also held the advantage in blocks, 5-1.
