Brewton-Parker Barons Shine at UGW Legends Invite

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - In a remarkable display of athleticism at the College Track and Field Invitational on April 4-5, 2025, the Brewton-Parker Barons showcased their prowess in Carrollton, Ga. Competing against UWG Legends, the men's and women's teams delivered outstanding performances, with numerous personal records (PRs) and a new school record. The men finished 5th out of 16 teams, and the women finished 10th out of 15 teams competing at the event.

Highlighting the event, the Barons saw two members qualify for Nationals. Javon Mclean earned the right to compete in the Long Jump with his mark of 7.27m, and Jonah McNealey earned the right in the triple jump with a mark of 14.57m. Yabaka Moore set a new school record in the hammer throw, reaching a remarkable distance of 45.85 meters. This key moment stood out as one of the pinnacle achievements of the meet, reinforcing Moore's dominance in the field. In addition to Moore's record-breaking throw, teammates Jalea Rhett and Donta Williams achieved personal records in the javelin. At the same time, Adam Patrick, Noah Woodard, and Keelie Jordan hit new personal bests in the hammer event. Keelie Jordan also set a personal record in the discus.

The Barons' stamina and speed were on full display on the track. Both the men and women set records in the 4x100 relay. The Women's team, comprised of Kameron Noble, Kendra Payne, Danaysia Roberts, and Sidni Daniel, set the school record with a time of 48.63 seconds, while the men's team, comprised of Jonathan Williams, Ty'Sheem Denton, Kasen Evans, and Travis Massey, set the new school record with a time of 41.62 seconds. Anthony Ferrie and Zamarvian Green achieved personal bests in the 1500-meter race, demonstrating their strong mid-distance capabilities. Aderius Gibson notably improved his time in the steeplechase to 40 seconds, a significant accomplishment that highlights his dedication and improvement. The Barons also saw a bevy of PR's in the hurdles from Nahive Berry in the 110 hurdles, Aaliyah Allen, Jaleah Rhett, Yusuf Abukar, and Zion Smalls all hitting PR's in the 400 hurdles. Sophia Brown also hit a PR in the 400m and 100m races alongside Kameron Noble. RaaShonda Khalil hit a PR in the 200m race. The Barons set the tone for their team's performances to grow even further.

The Barons look to carry this momentum forward as they prepare for their next challenge at the Invite in Statesboro, Ga, scheduled for April 12, 2025. The team's recent achievements in Carrollton have set a high standard as they get ready for their next event in the path to qualifying for Nationals.
