MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - Brewton-Parker College's track and field teams displayed formidable performances at the invitational held on April 12, 2025, in Statesboro, Ga. Competing against multiple schools, the Barons men's team triumphantly secured first place amongst six teams, while the women's team finished a respectable fourth.
The meet was a stage for remarkable personal records and new school records.
Brandon Williams set a personal record in the 5k, alongside teammates
Eric Smith, Aderius Gibson, and
Alan Leon, who achieved personal bests in the 1500m. The men's 4x100 relay team of
Jonathan Williams,
Ty'Sheem Denton, Dontea Williams, and
Travis Massey broke the school record with a time of 41.45 seconds, breaking the record they previously set. Several runners hit personal bests in the hurdles, including
Yusuf Abuukar, Zyon Smalls,
Kasen Evans, and
Cayden Restrepo.
In the women's category,
Kendra Payne set a new school record in the 400m with a time of 58.05 seconds. Several runners, including Kameron Noble,
Aaliyah Allen,
Sophia Brown, and Nahvie Berry, achieved personal bests across various hurdles and sprint events.
Field events also saw significant achievements, with
Talon Walker setting a new school record in javelin at 48.74 meters.
Malik Brown and
Yabaka Moore dominated the shotput, taking the top two positions. At the same time,
A'Shanti Surrey,
Jayla Morgan, and
Hollis Morton showcased their triple jump, high jump, and javelin skills.
The Barons are now preparing to head to Hattiesburg, Miss., for the SSAC Conference Championships on April 24-26, 2025, where they hope to continue their impressive forms and compete for the SSAC title while also looking to get more national qualifiers.
