Brewton-Parker Barons Show Exceptional Performance at Emory Invitational

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - In a remarkable display of athleticism and determination, the Brewton-Parker Barons track and field teams showcased their skills at the Emory "Thrills on the Hills" Invitational on March 28-29, 2025. Although the meet did not record team scores, individual Barons athletes stood out with record-breaking performances and national qualifications.

Travis Massey was the weekend highlight, qualifying for the Nationals in the 100m and setting a new school record in the 100m and 200m events. His explosive speed marked a time of 10.31 seconds in the 100m and 21.54 seconds in the 200m. In the men's 4x100 relay, the team comprising Jonathan Williams, Ty'Sheem Denton, Javon Mclean, and Travis Massey clinched second place with a formidable performance. The Barons also saw two PR be set in the 5k run for Eric Smith and Jonah Galli, running 17:09 and 17:16, respectively. The Barons continue to push each other to be better.

In the women's competitions, Sidni Daniels made it to the finals in the 100m, securing an eighth-place finish with a time of 12.18 seconds. Kendra Payne was another standout, breaking the school record in the 400m and placing seventh with a time of 58.83 seconds. The women's 4x400 relay team, consisting of Sophia Brown, Kendra Payne, Danaysia Roberts, and Sidni Daniel, also made a strong showing by finishing 8th.

Field events saw exceptional achievements, too. Yabaka Moore set a new school record in the shotput with a remarkable throw of 15.43m and qualified for the hammer throw finals. In the men's javelin, Kohlman Greer and Donta Williams hit personal records with throws of 45.49m and 44.69m, respectively, while Javon Mclean earned a fifth-place finish in high jump with a height of 1.95m.

The key moment came when Travis Massey secured his qualification for the Nationals, a testament to his hard work and the team's rigorous training. The Barons are now gearing up for their next challenge at the UWG Legends Invite in Carrolton, Ga., where they aim to continue their impressive form and see even more athletes qualify for nationals.
