Barons Shine at SSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Barons delivered stellar performances at the SSAC Conference Championship in Gainesville, Fla., on February 14-15, 2025. The Brewton-Parker men's and women's teams showcased their skills and determination, with the men securing a third-place finish and the women taking fifth place in a fiercely competitive field that included teams from William Carey, Life, Loyola, Thomas, Mobile, and other SSAC schools.

Highlighting the event were the remarkable feats of the Barons' freshmen athletes. Kendra Payne, a talented freshman, clinched the title in the 400m event with a time of 57.83. She also played a pivotal role in the women's 4x400 relay team, alongside Kamron Noble, Sidni Daniels, and Danaisha Roberts, which secured third place and set a new school record. Javon Mclean, another freshman, made headlines by earning three podium finishes; he placed third in both the High Jump and Long Jump, and second in the Triple Jump, displaying a promising start to his collegiate career.

The Barons also excelled in the field events. Hollis Morton and Jonah McNealey made notable placements in the High Jump and Triple Jump, respectively. Brewton-Parker athletes swept the top spots in the men's pole vault, with Cayden Restrepo taking first place, Donta Williams finishing second, and Yusuf Abuukar placing third. Yabaka Moore secured the second position in the shot put with an impressive throw of 15.05m.

Head Coach Stephen Roberts expressed his emotions about the team's performance: "I was incredibly proud of how our team competed today. They all gave us everything they had. I am excited to see where we can take this momentum into the outdoor season. I want to give thanks to God for his many blessings and for allowing us to compete and honor him daily. We look forward to those competing at nationals indoors and preparing for the outdoor season."

Track and Field Director Tony Hawkins shared his thoughts on the team's season, "Both the men's and women's teams performed well at the SSAC championships. The WINquirments were shown throughout the entire competition. The coaching staff did an excellent job preparing each event group to compete. We are prepared to continue this progress into the outdoor season. In two weeks, we will complete the indoor season with two athletes preparing for the NAIA indoor national championships."

Looking ahead, the Barons will participate in the NAIA National Championships beginning on February 27, 2025. Recent successes bolster their confidence, and the teams are poised for another impactful performance on the national stage.
