Baseball Falls 6-3 Against Blue Mountain on Saturday; Barons Win Series 2-1

Box Score

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker wrapped up its weekend series against Blue Mountain (Miss.) on Saturday afternoon.

The Barons (16-21, 10-5 SSAC) dropped the final game of the series against the Toppers (21-19, 5-10 SSAC), 6-3, but still won the series with the pair of wins on Friday.

How It Happened

Blue Mountain connected for two hits in the top of the second but left the pair of runners on base to remain scoreless through two innings. Brewton-Parker had three batters walked in the bottom half of the second inning but could not produce a base hit to bring a run home, leaving all three runners on.

The Toppers struck first in the third inning with three hits to take a 1-0 lead. BMC utilized a leadoff double and two singles to bring home the lone run. Blue Mountain moved to a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning notching two base hits for another run.

Brewton-Parker managed to finally connect for two hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Eduardo Castillo and Malik Germany both notched base hits, but the two base runners were left on to close out the inning.

After a scoreless fifth inning, the Toppers added two additional runs in the top of the sixth. BMC took advantage of a BPC error and two hits to bring home a pair of scores for the 4-0 lead. Brewton-Parker recorded a double from Castillo followed by an RBI single from Germany to move the deficit to just three runs behind Blue Mountain.

Mackenzie McDowell doubled in the seventh but was left on base prior to Blue Mountain's two singles in the top of the eighth. The Toppers left both runners on to close out the inning.

In the top of the ninth, Blue Mountain added two runs to the tally to apply more pressure onto the Barons. BMC produced two hits and took advantage of a miscue from BPC to score two runs for the 6-1 lead.

Jacob Mantooth singled in the ninth inning but that was the only hit BPC could produce. However, the Barons utilized two walked batters to help score two runs. Unfortunately, that's all that Brewton-Parker could muster, dropping the game 6-3.
