BASEBALL DROPS 12-2 LOSS TO NO. 11 GEORGIA GWINNETT

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Brewton-Parker baseball traveled to No. 11-ranked Georgia Gwinnett for the final non-conference contest of the 2022 season.

The Barons (18-27) were downed by the Grizzlies (35-12) with 11 runs late in the game, falling 12-2.

How It Happened

The Grizzlies opened the scoring in the second inning with a solo homer over the left-field wall to lead 1-0. Brewton-Parker had a runner in scoring position in the third inning after an error from Georgia Gwinnett but struggled to piece together an offensive threat to bring home the run.

After scoreless third and fourth innings, the Barons totaled two hits and utilized an error to take a 2-1 lead during the top half of the fifth inning. Tony Rudolph recorded a single to advance Mackenzie McDowell to third base. Rudolph then advanced on a failed pickoff attempt which scored McDowell. After a walk from Ethan FrascaJordan Rahn connected for an RBI double to score Rudolph to lead by one run.

Brewton-Parker's lead was quickly erased as GGC knocked out a two-run homer to left-center field for the 3-2 lead.

As for the rest of the inning, the Grizzlies totaled five more hits for seven additional runs while also taking advantage of a BPC error. GGC closed out the inning with a 10-2 lead after scoring nine total runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Georgia Gwinnett added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure a 10-run lead, to enforce the run rule. GGC totaled two hits and left a pair of runners on base to close out the game.

  • The Grizzlies outhit the Barons 11-5 with BPC being led by Rahn with two hits.
  • Rahn tallied the lone RBI while Rudolph and McDowell recorded the two runs.
  • Both Eduardo Castillo and Rahn notched a double.
  • The Barons left a total of six runners on base.
  • Zach Wilson recorded six putouts followed by Taz Worrell with four.
  • Five Barons made an appearance on the mound. Austin Visocchi picked up the start, throwing for an inning.
  • Ty Cook came in to throw for two innings, allowing a run and a hit before Roberto Urena pitched a pair of innings.
  • Urena gave up three hits and two earned runs. He struck out one and walked another.
  • Dakota Davis made a brief appearance before Noah Burns pitched the final 1.1 innings.
