Box Score 2 MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker baseball hosted Mobile (Ala.) on Friday with a doubleheader slated in Mount Vernon.
The Barons (13-20, 7-4 SSAC) split with the Rams (17-13, 6-8 SSAC) securing game one 6-5, and dropping game two 15-6.
Game 1 | Brewton-Parker 6, Mobile 5
The Rams produced two hits in the top of the first inning but left the pair of baserunners behind to close out the side. Brewton-Parker was gifted three free bases as Tony Rudolph was walked prior to advancing on a balk and then on an error from Mobile. Unfortunately, Rudolph was left on as the Barons struggled to connect for a hit.
Both the second and third innings resulted in scoreless efforts, but the Barons were able to produce a hit in the bottom of the third with a single from Taz Worrell.
Mobile broke the scoreless draw with five runs in the fourth inning while notching six hits. The Rams began with a leadoff homer before following with a two-shot homerun. UM then produced four singles to help bring home the rest of the runs.
Brewton-Parker responded with a pair of scores in the bottom of the fourth. Zachary Wilson knocked out a two-run homer to left field, bringing Rudolph with him for the Barons' first two runs of the game.
The Barons added another two runs in the fifth inning after holding Mobile to just one hit in the top of the inning. Jordan Rahn notched a single before Jackson Smith homered to left field for the pair of runs.
In the sixth inning, Brewton-Parker leveled the game at 5-5 with a solo score from Wilson. Matt Collins led with a double followed by a single from Wilson. Malik Germany notched an RBI single to bring home Wilson for the equalizing run.
Brewton-Parker found themselves in a prime position in the seventh with the bases loaded. Worrell notched a one-out single up the middle before Rudolph and Collins were both walked. Eduardo Castillo was walked with two outs on the board to advance Worrell for the winning run giving BPC the 6-5 victory.
Inside the Statistics
- The Barons notched nine hits as a team while Mobile produced 10.
- Worrell, Wilson, and Rahn led BPC with two hits each while Wilson and Smith led with two RBIs. Wilson also led with two runs scored.
- Smith recorded six putouts followed by Wilson with five and Worrell with four.
- Ty Cook started on the mound for BPC throwing for 3.2 innings. He gave up eight hits, and five earned runs. Cook struck out four batters and walked three as well.
- Matt Hager closed out the final 3.1 innings and allowed just two hits while striking out two batters.
Game 2 | Brewton-Parker 6, Mobile 15
Mobile's bats remained warm in game two as the Rams opened the first inning with four hits and four runs. UM's leadoff batter reached on an error to open the game prior to a two-run homer. The Rams utilized two doubles and a single to score two additional runs for the early 4-0 lead.
Brewton-Parker managed to knock down the early deficit with Rudolph scoring a single run to make the score 4-1 after the opening inning of play. The Rams added another run in the top of the second inning from a pair of hits to move back to a four-run deficit over the Barons.
In the third inning, Mobile produced another four-run inning with four hits. One of which was a three-run home run. In the fourth inning, the Rams added another run with a solo shot homer for the 10-1 lead.
The Barons produced a double and an RBI groundout to score a run in the bottom of the fifth to move one closer, 10-2. Mobile pulled away to a 14-2 lead with four runs in the sixth inning as three of the four hits for the Rams were home runs.
Brewton-Parker added another solo scoring effort in the bottom of the sixth with a double from Rahn and a single from Smith. In the seventh, Collins ended the chances of a shortened game two with a two-run homer to pull the deficit back to nine runs from the Rams. Smith notched his second home run of the day in the bottom of the eighth to give BPC an eight-run deficit.
However, the Rams added one final run to the tally in the ninth inning by scoring from a wild pitch. Mobile took game two with a commanding 15-6 win.
Inside the Statistics
- Mobile produced a total of 16 hits while Brewton-Parker managed to produce six.
- Collins led BPC with three RBIs and two hits while Smith recorded two hits as well as a pair of RBIs.
- Wilson led the way in fielding with 13 putouts with Malik Germany recording five assists.
- Four Barons made appearances on the mound with Austin Visocchi earning the start. He threw for 2.1 innings and allowed seven hits along with seven earned runs.
- Trey Jones pitched for 3.1 innings after Visocchi. He gave up seven hits and six earned runs while recording two strikeouts.
- Jacob Mantooth made a quick appearance followed by Roberto Urena closing out the game by throwing for three innings. He walked four batters and struck out two.
