Barons Fall to USC-Beaufort on Tuesday Afternoon

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker baseball hosted South Carolina-Beaufort for a scheduled nine-inning game on Tuesday afternoon.

The Barons (10-18) dropped the mid-week contest to the Sand Sharks (16-16) in a 17-7 seven-inning defeat.

How It Happened

USCB opened with a leadoff home run in the first inning to take the early 1-0 lead. Brewton-Parker answered in the bottom of the inning with a two-run homer from Matt Collins to capture the lead. Caleb Gepfer scored from Collins' shot over the right-field wall as a pinch-runner from Eduardo Castillo. BPC left two runners on as Malik Germany was walked and Drew DeMasi reached on a single to third base.

The second inning was closed out with neither team scoring but BPC managed to record a double from Tony Rudolph. The Sand Sharks equalized the game in the third inning with another leadoff home run. In the bottom of the third, the Barons left two runners on base with Zach Wilson connecting for a double and Germany recording another walk.

South Carolina-Beaufort added seven runs to the tally in the top of the fourth inning to make the score 9-2. The Sand Sharks utilized an error from the Barons on top of the five hits produced. USCB added a pair of runs in the fifth inning, connecting for four hits to boost the lead to 11-2.

Brewton-Parker answered with a solo home run from Wilson to move the score to 11-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Barons left two runners on after producing a total of three hits.

In the sixth inning, USCB scored an additional six runs to further themselves from the Barons. The Sand Sharks jumped out to a commanding 17-3 lead with just two hits in the inning, one of which was the fourth homer of the game and the second for Kyran Russ.

The Barons closed out the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings to wrap up the game, 17-7. Both Rudolph and Gepfer scored in the sixth while Gepfer connected for a two-run homer in the seventh to score Mauri Miller.

Inside the Statistics

  • South Carolina-Beaufort produced 13 hits while Brewton-Parker produced 11. A total of four Barons notched two hits apiece with Collins leading with three RBIs followed by Gepfer with two.
  • The trio of Gepfer, Collins, and Wilson produced three home runs for BPC with Collins and Wilson both recording a double as well.
  • Castillo notched six putouts followed by DeMasi with five and Taz Worrell with four.
  • A total of five Barons made appearances on the mound with Dakota Davis getting the nod as the starter. Davis threw for three innings and allowed six hits and gave up seven earned runs. He struck out two batters and walked one.
  • Chandler Koerner threw for two innings and allowed five hits as well as two earned runs.
  • Roberto Urena and Jared Marrs made quick appearances on the mound before Jacob Mantooth closed out the final 1.1 innings of the game, striking out three batters in the process.

Brewton-Parker is set to hit the road this weekend for a series against Talladega (Ala.) starting Friday at 2 p.m. ET.
