MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons baseball team hosted the #18 Wolf Pack of Loyola University (La.) on March 28, 2026, in the final game of a three-game series, and despite their best efforts, lost the game 12-4.
Loyola struck first in the top of the first when Nathan McDonald led off the scoring with a solo home run. The Barons answered in the second and briefly grabbed control. Jeremi Lara singled home a run, and Raul Morales followed with an RBI single to give Brewton-Parker a 2-1 lead.
That advantage held until the fifth, when Loyola pieced together the decisive rally. Jaxon Buratt, McDonald, and Jovan Swasey each delivered run-scoring singles, and pinch-hitter Jordan McKenzie added an RBI single as Loyola moved in front 5-2. Brewton-Parker got one back in the bottom half when Fred Diaz singled, and Anthony Savarese later scored on a wild pitch, trimming the margin to 5-3.
Loyola kept the pressure on in the sixth. Buratt lined a two-run double to extend the lead to 7-3, then the visitors broke the game open in the seventh with five more runs. Reed Duthu and JJ Garcia doubled during the inning, Myles Liggans drove in two with a single, and Buratt capped the burst with a two-RBI single that pushed the score to 12-3. Diaz would score in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 12-4, but the Barons' comeback would stall after that.
The Barons will look to regroup before heading to West Point, Ga., to take on the Skyhawks of Point University in a conference series starting on April 3, 2026.
