Box Score 2 MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Brewton-Parker baseball program closed out the three-game home series against No. 12 Middle Georgia on Saturday.
The Barons (8-16, 2-1 SSAC) downed the Knights (15-6-1, 4-2 SSAC) with a pair of wins to seal the series over the in-state rivals during a blistering cold March day in Mount Vernon.
Game 1 | Brewton-Parker 2, Middle Georgia 1
All the action essentially occurred in the opening inning as Middle Georgia opened with a solo score to lead 1-0. The Knight connected for two hits and benefitted from a miscue from the Barons but left two runners on.
Brewton-Parker answered with two runs and two hits in the bottom of the inning to lead capture the lead. Taz Worrell notched a leadoff single before Tony Rudolph produced an RBI double to score Worrell. Rudolph crossed the dish with a ground out from Zach Wilson.
Not a lot happened for the remainder of the game as the Barons were able to secure the first game of the two-game slate, 2-1.
Inside the Statistics
- Middle Georgia produced six hits while Brewton-Parker recorded four.
- Rudolph led the Barons with a pair of hits and an RBI. One hit for Rudolph was a triple while the other was a double.
- Drew DeMasi recorded 10 putouts with Malik Germany assisting five.
- Chandler Koerner opened the game, pitching for three innings. He allowed four hits and a run while striking out one batter.
- Austin Visocchi pitched for the final four innings. He allowed just two hits while striking out two batters.
Game 2 | Brewton-Parker 9, Middle Georgia 6
Middle Georgia opened game two with a pair of runs to lead early in the first inning. The Knights connected for three hits. Brewton-Parker answered swiftly with four runs on just one hit and an error from the Knights. BPC was in position to score additional runs as they left three runners on base at the innings' end.
Brewton-Parker added three runs with no hits but took advantage of another error from Middle Georgia to help score. After two innings, BPC held a 7-2 lead over the Knights.
The Knights pieced together four hits and scored a pair of runs to knock the deficit down to 7-4. The Barons also gave up an error in the inning. BPC was fortunate enough to get out of the third inning as Middle Georgia left three runners on base.
In the fourth inning, Brewton-Parker extended the deficit further with a run from Matt Collins. The Knights found some trouble on the mound after loading the bases from walking batters which gave the Barons an open door to score, leading 8-4.
Both the fifth and sixth innings were held scoreless for both teams. Middle Georgia applied some pressure to the Barons in the seventh inning by scoring a pair of runs to knock the deficit down to just two runs. Fortunately, Brewton-Parker scored a run in the bottom of the eighth to create some cushion for the lead. BPC connected on two hits and took advantage of a Middle Georgia miscue.
The Knights were in position to add runs in the ninth inning, but the Barons held tough down the stretch to secure the series win.
Inside the Statistics
- Middle Georgia led 9-6 in hits with Worrell leading the Barons with three hits while DeMasi led with two RBIs.
- Collins, Wilson, and Caleb Gepfer all scored two runs apiece.
- Eduardo Castillo recorded 11 putouts with Collins assisting four.
- From the mound, Matt Hager started and pitched for three innings. He allowed seven hits four runs and struck out four batters.
- Mackenzie McDowell closed out the final six innings of play. He gave up just two runs and two hits. McDowell struck out seven batters as well.
Next Up
The Barons move to 8-16 on the season and will travel to Stillman (Ala.) next weekend to continue SSAC action.
