Baseball Falls in SSAC Opener to No. 12-Ranked Knights

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Brewton-Parker baseball program hosted No. 12-ranked Middle Georgia on Thursday to open SSAC play.

The Barons (6-16, 0-1 SSAC) were downed by the Knights (15-4-1, 4-0 SSAC) with a ninth-inning ignition that produced 10 runs for MGA to seal the 13-4 win over BPC.

How It Happened

The first three innings were scoreless for both teams with the Barons being fortunate enough to keep the Knights away in the second inning. BPC allowed a hit and gave up an error which left two runners on for MGA.

Brewton-Parker struck first with a solo run scored in the fourth inning. Malik Germany reached via a single up the middle just before Drew DeMasi connected for an RBI double down the right-field line to score Germany.

A scoreless fifth inning was produced before the Barons added to their lead in the sixth inning. BPC produced three hits in the inning to help bring home a run. DeMasi notched another RBI double to boost the baserunning for Brewton-Parker, scoring Zach Wilson.

The Knights pulled a run back in the seventh inning to make the score 2-1 before adding a pair of runs in the eighth to lead 3-2. Middle Georgia utilized three hits to score the two runs but left two runners on base.

 Brewton-Parker answered with back-to-back home runs to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 4-3 lead. Eduardo Castillo connected on a high-flyer that soared over the left-field wall to level the score just before Matt Collins hit a laser over the right-field wall to score the go-ahead run. BPC totaled four hits in the inning.

The top of the ninth was disastrous for BPC as the Barons gave up a total of 10 runs on just six hits. The Knights took advantage of every opportunity and put the game away to seal the 13-4 victory.

Inside the Statistics

  • Middle Georgia produced 13 hits while Brewton-Parker produced 11. Collins and DeMasi led with three hits apiece.
  • DeMasi also led with a pair of RBIs and doubles.
  • Ethan Frasca, Germany, and Wilson all connected for a double on the night.
  • Castillo led with 11 putouts followed by DeMasi with eight.
  • Ty Cook pitched for 7.2 innings before taking a seat. He gave up seven hits and three earned runs. He struck out 10 batters and walked two.
  • Matt Hager and Trey Jones both pitched for 0.1 innings. Hager recorded a strikeout while Jones recorded five.
  • Lastly, Jered Marrs and Dakota Davis closed out the game with Davis throwing 0.2 innings to wrap up the game.
