Barons Fall to Thomas in Shortened Seven Innings

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Brewton-Parker baseball competed on the road today at Thomas (Ga.) in a single nine-inning midweek game.

The Barons (1-4) were dropped, 20-10 in seven innings by the Night Hawks (3-1).

How It Happened

Brewton-Parker opened the game with a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Matt Collins notched a triple to right field, bringing in Taz Worrell who reached first with a hit by pitch. The Barons left two on base in the inning. Thomas left one on base in the bottom half of the inning before holding the Barons to the same in the top of the second.

In the bottom of the second, Thomas amassed six runs to claim the lead by five. During the second, the Night Hawks gathered five runs on five hits. BPC responded in the third with three runs to get within two runs. Malik Germany knocked out a homer with Jordan Rahn batting in Worrell and Drew DeMasi knocking in Rahn with an RBI double. Thomas answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to advance their lead to 8-4 over the Barons

The Barons were held to no offense in the fourth before Thomas added another pair of runs, advancing the deficit to six by leading 10-4. Brewton-Parker produced four runs on three hits in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 10-8. Jackson Smith doubled to gather three RBIs, bringing in Zach Wilson, Collins, and DeMasi. Caleb Gepfer scored pinch-running for Jackson Smith as Ethan Frasca recorded a single.

Thomas answered yet again with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to boost the lead to a four-run deficit. The Night Hawks continued their creating damage to the Barons with six runs in the sixth inning to move the score to 18-8. Brewton-Parker two runs on one hit with Collins and Wilson scoring. Unfortunately, the Barons were unable to hold on in the bottom of the seventh as Thomas added two more runs to enforce the seven-inning run-rule to drop BPC, 20-10.

Inside the Statistics

  • A trio of Barons recorded two hits as well as two runs.
  • Smith gathered a team-high three RBIs and led BPC with a double alongside DeMasi.
  • Collins notched two triples on the day while Germany highlighted the batting efforts with a lone homer.
  • Trey Jones pitched for 1.1 innings and was credited for the loss. He gave up four runs on four hits, striking out two and walking one on eight at-bats.
  • PJ Ridgeway and Matt Hager both grabbed two strikeouts as well.
  • Brewton-Parker threw a total of seven pitchers on the afternoon with Hager throwing for a high of 1.2 innings.

The Barons move to 1-4 on the season and are slated to head to West Palm Beach, Fla. to face No. 8-ranked Keiser (Fla.) on Feb. 11-12.
