Box Score 2 MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Baseball closed out its weekend series against Shawnee State (Ohio) with a pair of games on Saturday afternoon
The Barons (4-13) dropped both games on the afternoon against the Bears (5-6) with a 6-4 loss and a 5-1 loss, respectively.
Game 1 | Brewton-Parker 4, Shawnee State 6
The opening game of Saturday's pair of games opened with scoreless efforts in the first two innings of play. SSU found one hit in the first inning, leaving one on base while BPC recorded a hit in the second while also leaving no one behind.
Scoring kicked off in the third inning as Shawnee State managed to find five runs on four hits in the top half of the inning. The Bears gathered a three-run homer as well as a two-run homer in the inning.
Brewton-Parker responded with two hits and two runs in the bottom half of the inning to make the score 5-2. Both Ethan Frasca and Zach Wilson scored with Tony Rudolph and Wilson picking up a single each. The Bears answered right back in the top of the fourth inning with a solo run scored off two hits to move the lead to 6-2.
The Barons were able to score two runs on two hits and an error in the bottom of the sixth inning to knock the deficit to just two runs, down 6-4. BPC managed to hold off the Bears in the final inning but could not enough offense in the seventh to produce a late-game comeback performance.
Inside the Statistics
- Shawnee State narrowly outhit Brewton-Parker, 8-6. Malik Germany led the Barons with two hits and one of the four runs scored.
- Taz Worrell, Wilson, and Fracsa were the other scorers for BPC.
- Defensively, Jackson Smith recorded six putouts followed by Mackenzie McDowell with five.
- Matt Hager started the game and threw for two innings. He gave up four runs on three hits. He struck out three batters in the process.
- Austin Visocchi threw for the final five innings, allowing five hits and two runs. He struck out two batters and walked two in 20 at-bats.
Game 2 | Brewton-Parker 1, Shawnee State 5
Game two resulted in little offensive production for Brewton-Parker. Shawnee State opened the game with a two-run homer over center field to make an early 2-0 lead. SSU gathered three hits in the second but left all three runners on base with BPC leaving two runners on base off one hit in the bottom half of the inning.
The third inning closed out scoreless for both teams. The Bears added another run in the fourth inning with a solo shot over centerfield for the second home run of the game to lead 3-0. Shawnee State tacked on another run in the fifth inning off two hits and an error to move to a four-run lead.
SSU tacked on one final run in the top of the sixth inning off two hits to move the lead to five runs. BPC answered with just a run in the bottom half of the inning to move the score to 5-1. Unfortunately, the seventh inning closed in a scoreless affair solidifying the 5-1 win for the Bears.
Inside the Statistics
- Shawnee State outhit Brewton-Parker 13-3 in game two. Rudolph, Smith, and Frasca all gathered a hit each with Frasca earning the lone run for BPC.
- Drew DeMasi gathered eight putouts with Rudolph and Germany recording three assists each.
- Three pitchers made mound appearances with Chandler Koerner opening with one inning pitched. He allowed five hits and two runs on eight at-bats.
- McDowell pitched for five innings, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out three batters.
- Jered Marrs closed out the game with an inning pitched. He gave up just one hit on four at-bats.
Next Up
Brewton-Parker is scheduled to return to play next weekend with a three-game series against Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.).
