Box Score MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Baseball opened its weekend series against Shawnee State (Ohio) with a 13-4 win on Friday night.
The Barons (4-11) downed the Bears (3-6) to open the three-game homestand.
How It Happened
The Barons struck early with six runs in the bottom of the first inning. BPC recorded just two hits but was able to take advantage of the Bears' pitching miscues with three batters getting on base due to being hit by a pitch. Brewton-Parker had more scorers in position but left three on base.
Shawnee State responded with two runs in the second inning before holding BPC to a quick three outs. The Bears tacked on two more in the top of the third to move the score 6-4 in favor of the Barons. However, BPC took advantage of some more mishaps from SSU, scoring four runs on one hit and two errors.
The fourth, fifth, and sixth innings were closed out with scoreless efforts as Shawnee State was the only team to muster up a hit in the fifth inning. BPC's bats caught heat in the seventh with the Barons gathering two runs on three hits. In the bottom of the ninth, BPC was able to add one last run on one hit to seal the 12-4 victory.

- Both teams recorded seven hits for the game with Jackson Smith leading with three.
- Mackenzie McDowell led the way with three of BPC's 11 RBIs.
- A total of five Barons recorded two runs apiece.
- Defensively, Jackson Smith recorded 14 putouts followed by Drew DeMasi with eight.
- BPC gave up three errors while SSU gave up five.
- Ty Cook started on the mound throwing for seven innings. He gave up all seven hits and four runs while striking out 11 batters.
- Trey Jones closed out the game throwing for two innings, striking out four batters.
