Box Score MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Brewton-Parker men's soccer program comes up short in a narrow 1-0 defeat to Cumberland (Tenn.) on Tuesday afternoon.
The Barons (0-2) were unable to connect on opportunities to take control of the scoreline with equalizing chances late in the match falling through.
Head Coach Bob Neumann expressed his thoughts after the loss. "It was difficult today", Neumann said. "All of the credit goes to Cumberland for winning the match."
"Our guys have done well with the challenges of learning a new system. We have a few more strides to make before the right connections are made," Neumann added. "I am excited for the week ahead as we have some time between matches to work out some of the kinks."
How It Happened
- Cumberland found themselves in prime position to take the lead in the 20th minute with an opportunity from the penalty spot.
- Jamair Stewart redeemed himself with a huge save after committing a foul that led to the penalty chance, keeping the Phoenix scoreless.
- The Phoenix were able to break through in the 35th minute to take the 1-0 lead.
- The Barons were held tightly by a defensive backline from Cumberland that allowed only nine shots all afternoon with three on frame.
- A late aerial effort from Isaiah Lamont off a Caleb Summerfield corner was knocked off the post to keep the Barons from equalizing.
