MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - Brewton-Parker Christian University is excited to announce the hiring of Jake Alvernia as its new Director of Soccer Programs - head Men's and Women's soccer coach.
Alvernia comes from Missouri Baptist University, where he played soccer during the 95-96 season, graduated with a Bachelor's in Business Administration in 1996, and later earned a Master of Arts in Teaching in 2013. Missouri Baptist named him head coach of the Spartans in 2013, after he spent two years as an assistant coach while earning his master's. During his tenure at Missouri Baptist, Alvernia led his team to the conference playoffs in 11 of the 13 seasons as the head coach and won the AMC Coach of the Year award in 2020. After six seasons as the head coach, Alvernia helped the Spartans make the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in program history in 2018, while setting seven different school records that year. During his tenure as head coach, he had over 100 athletes make the Scholar Athlete team, alongside numerous 1st- and 2nd-team all-conference players.
Jake shared his goals for the program and the future of Brewton-Parker soccer, saying, "I am blessed and very excited to join the Brewton-Parker Athletics team. I look forward to my next chapter at BPCU and the impact I hope to have on both the men's and women's teams. I would like to thank Mr. Dooley and President Dr. Echols, as well as the hiring committee (Mrs. Nester, Mr. Edwards, and Mr. Larsen), for their trust in me to have a meaningful impact on the students' lives both on and off the field. I am very grateful to continue God's work here at BPCU, and I look forward to many successes in the future."
The Barons are excited to bring in a coach of his caliber to lead the men's program and help guide the next coach of the women's program. Athletic Director Chris Dooley added, "We are pleased to welcome Coach Alvernia and his family to BPCU. As we began the search for a new head coach for our men's and women's soccer programs, our foremost goal was to identify a leader who demonstrated a strong missional fit with BPCU and a proven ability to recruit and compete successfully at the NAIA level. With 13 years of head coaching experience, numerous national tournament appearances, and significant national involvement within the NAIA through his service on the NAIA Men's Soccer Executive Committee, we are confident we have found that leader in Coach Alvernia. We look forward to his leadership as he advances our soccer programs."
Brewton-Parker Athletics looks forward to a bright future with Coach Jake Alvernia and to the continued blessings God has brought to our campus thus far.
