Men's Soccer Draws Against Middle Georgia in Double Overtime

COCHRAN, Ga. – The Brewton-Parker men's soccer program traveled to Cochran, Ga. to take on cross-state and SSAC rival, Middle Georgia on Thursday night.

The Barons (4-11-2, 2-4-1 SSAC) gathered a double-overtime draw against the Knights (3-11-2, 2-4-1 SSAC) to close out regular-season play.

Head Coach Bob Neumann shared his thoughts after the match. "You always want to win the game, but a share of the spoils was probably a fair reflection for tonight," Neumann said. "We are now looking forward to the opening round and another chance at Faulkner next week."

How It Happened

  • The first half was fairly quiet for both teams as the first 45 minutes closed with a 0-0 stalemate. The Knights outshot the Barons 8-5 with the Barons taking the advantage 4-3 in shots on goal.
  • In the second half, the Barons finally broke the draw at the 74:06 mark as Jacob Shield scored on a volley to give BPC the 1-0 lead.
  • In the 82nd minute, the Knights responded with a goal of their own to equalize the match at 1-1. The Knights' offensive efforts were more prominent in the second half as they outshot the Barons 12-4.
  • With the score even, the match moved to overtime. In the first overtime period, Middle Georgia continued to add pressure to Brewton-Parker with a 5-2 shot advantage. After 10 minutes, there was no break in the scoreline.
  • With action beginning in the second overtime period, both teams were held to zero attacking opportunities and the match eventually closed with a 1-1 tie.

Inside The Statistics

  • At the end of the night, Middle Georgia garnered 25 total shots with nine on goal while Brewton-Parker totaled 11 shots, finding six on frame.
  • Individually, Shield led with three shots and the lone goal for the Barons.
  • Both Pablo Grajales and Samuel Figueiro gathered two shots and a shot on goal apiece.
  • Jamair Stewart started in goal and played the full 110 minutes, notching eight saves on the night.
  • The Barons recorded six corner kicks while the Knights gathered nine.

Next Up

  • Brewton-Parker is now set to take on Faulkner (Ala.) next week in a rematch in the SSAC Tournament Opening Round. The Barons will pick up the No. 5 seed in the tournament and will travel to the No. 4 seed Eagles. The finalized date is still to be announced.
