Barons Wrestle at AAC Championships

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - At the AAC Championships held on February 21, 2025, at Life University, the Brewton-Parker men's wrestling team competed and ended up with a commendable 7th-place finish and 45 team points.

In the 133 division, senior Keyshaun Taylor for the Barons won his first match over Ethan Croom of Pikeville by a major decision, 15-4. In his second match, Taylor won over Amon Ellis of St. Andrews University by fall in 4:50. Taylor lost his third match to Jordan Escarra of St. Thomas University by fall in 3:12.

In the 141 Kullum, Irvin lost the first round to David Coptsias by fall 4:36. Irvin took round two over fellow Baron Blake Walker with a major decision 12-4. Irvin won round three over Mikia Brinson of Montreat College with a major decision of 15-2. Kullum lost in the consolation semi to Garrett Pace of Reinhardt University by fall in 6:48. Irvin won the fifth-place match over David Coptsias of St. Andrews University via technical fall 20-4 in 3:31.

In the 174, senior Sean Houston, in round one, won over Nicholas DaSilva of West Virginia University Tech with a fall in 1:34. in the quarterfinals, Houston won over returning National finalist and #3 Graham Calhoun of Southeastern via decision 3-2. Houston lost in the semifinal match to Tre Morrisette of Life after a major decision of 15-4. Houston lost via a last-second takedown in the consolation semifinals to #17 Geivan Ross of St. Thomas. He ended up taking sixth place on the day. The Barons are hopeful that Houston will be able to earn a wildcard spot to make nationals with his performance at the AAC Championships and his resume throughout the season.

In the 184, Zahquel Davis won over Jairo Caceres of St. Thomas University in round one with a major decision of 17-3. Davis beat Rocco D'Ascoli of Keiser University in the quarterfinals via decision 10-3. Davis lost in the semifinal match to #6 Kendall Norfleet of Life via a technical fall 19-1 in 5:30. Zahquel bounced back in the consolation semi to beat Jonathon Paramore of Reinhardt vis technical fall 19-4 5:52. That win earned him a shot at the third place match taking on William Parker of Truett McConnell. Davis won the match via decision 11-5 to take home third place, guaranteeing him a spot at Nationals.

The Barons are sending Zahquel Davis to the NAIA National Tournament in Park City, Kansas, which will take place March 6-8, 2025. Sean Houston and Kullum Irvin are awaiting wildcard selections to see if they make the National Tournament.
