MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University Men's Wrestling Team kicked off the 2025-26 season in Corbin, Kentucky at the Patriot Open. The Barons brought their best to kick off the year with the chance to compete with multiple people in the same weight class.
In the 197 lb weight class, Brandon Lively took home fourth place finish for the Barons and was unable to compete for third due to hitting his match limit for the day. His teammate, Gailan Wilds, made a run to the semi-finals before ultimately taking home a fourth-place finish in the 174 lb bracket.
Numerous Barons competed well and had an excellent opportunity to get matches under their belt early in the year. Finishing the day with numerous wins: Stunner Hutchinson (125), TJ McLean (125), Arthur Reed (149), Justin Whitney (157), Noah Myrick (157), Axel Andrews (165), Deuce Hightower (165), and John Arellano (285). The Barons look to prepare for a formidable conference opponent on November 8, 2025, as they take on Life University at Life.
Head Coach Tyler Smith shared his thoughts on his team's performance in the open and what is upcoming this year. "It's always exciting to see our young guns compete at their first college tournament, and to see how our older guys are developing in our program. I am proud of our effort and the courage we had to compete this weekend. Moving forward, we are committed to becoming more consistent in everything we do on and off the mat to achieve our goals."
