Barons Fall to Pioneers

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - In a challenging regular-season basketball faceoff, the Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons men's team encountered a tough loss against Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneers on November 29, 2025, at the Bridges Arena in Spartanburg, SC. The Barons, led by prominent scorers Tommy J Tisdale III and Jakobe Jones, fought hard but could not surmount the lead established early by the Pioneers.

The first half began with the Barons taking an initial lead of 5-2, bolstered by Tisdale's early three-pointers, which temporarily kept them ahead. However, the Spartanburg Methodist Pioneers turned the tide by the end of the first half, building a substantial 14-point lead and finishing the first half at 37-23.

The second half saw the Pioneers furthering their dominance, stretching their lead to 20 points with just over a minute left. Despite efforts by Jakobe Jones and Gil Gonzalez from Brewton-Parker, the Pioneers capitalized on multiple free throws and turnovers, sealing the game 84-66.

Top performances from the Barons included Tisdale, who scored 17 points, and Jones, who added 16 points. Abraham Garjah complemented their defensive efforts with four assists, and Gil Gonzalez, who led with nine rebounds. Despite these solid performances, Spartanburg Methodist's consistent pressure proved too robust for the Barons.

Head Coach Leonard Epps, "We struggled shooting from beyond the arc today, and we lost the turnover battle. We can focus on being more disciplined with the ball and our shot selection and get back on track next week."

As the Barons prepare for their next game against Carolina University on December 1, 2025, in Winston-Salem, N.C., they aim to enhance their strategies and return stronger. The Barons currently hold a 6-2 overall record, with a 1-1 conference record.
