Barons Take Down Bruins

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - In an exhilarating basketball showdown at Gillis Gymnasium on November 11, the Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons clinched a decisive 73-64 non-conference victory against the Carolina University Bruins. This victory further solidifies the Barons' perfect start to the season, pushing their record to an impressive 4-0, and clinched Head Coach Leonard Epps' 100th career win as a coach.

The game kicked off with Brewton-Parker gaining an early edge through strategic plays and free throws by Tommy J Tisdale III. Despite a strong three-pointer from Shawn Woodson of Carolina, the Barons quickly regained control, ultimately tying the game at 31-31 by halftime.

In the second half, the Barons dominated the court with layups and fast breaks, spearheaded by Gonzalez and supported by key defensive plays from Jayden Hill. The second half saw Brewton-Parker dominate, expanding its lead to 15 points, and by the end of the half, it won 73-64.

Key player Jakobe Jones led the team with a notable 21 points, eight steals, and five assists, proving instrumental in both offensive drives and defensive stops in support coming off the bench. Supporting him were Tommy J Tisdale III with 13 points and Gil Gonzalez, who not only scored 12 points but also claimed nine rebounds, solidifying his continued success on both ends of the floor.

Head Coach Leonard Epps reflected on the intentional direction of bringing in high-character players with non-stop motors this offseason and the success it has brought so far. The Barons have benefited this season from an unselfish approach, where every night has seen a different player shine on the court. Epps praised their ability to come together during the off-season and starting the season strong.

Looking ahead, the Barons are set to host Florida College at Gillis Gymnasium on November 14. The team hopes to continue their winning streak and carry forward their momentum from this significant victory.
