LAKELAND, Fla. – Brewton-Parker College Men's Wrestling traveled to Lakeland, Fla. for the AAC Championships on Saturday.
The Barons produced four placers, securing a sixth place finish out of 12 teams with 50 team points.
How It Happened
Keyshaun Taylor went 3-2 on the way to a fourth-place finish in the 133-pound weight class. Taylor started the day with a 17-1 tech fall over Ethyn Kimberlin from Bluefield (Va.) before picking up a 20-second fall over Gerard Ricciuto from St. Andrews (N.C.). Taylor dropped his third match in a 17-2 tech fall to No. 4 Thaddeus Long from Life (Ga.). While facing Stanley Lal from Truett-McConnell (Ga.), Taylor picked up a 5-2 decision, before falling in a 15-0 tech fall to Kahlil Tucker from St. Thomas (Fla.).
In the 165-pound division,
Sean Houston gathered fourth place with his 3-2 run. Houston started the day with a 14-11 decision win over No. 21 Wyatt Higgins from Reinhardt (Ga.), before falling in 6:25 to No. 2 Steven Villalobos from Life. Houston bounced back to pick up a 17-2 tech fall over St. Thomas' Sennai Heylinger, before dropping to a medical forfeit and taking fourth with a "no contest." With his placement, Houston earned a national qualifying allocation into the NAIA National Championship as an individual at 165.
Charlie Henkel started his day in the 184-pound weight class with a 14-4 major decision loss to No. 22 Johnathon Paramore from Reinhardt, before securing a 2:42 fall over his teammate
Thomas Crawford. Henkel ended his day with a pair of losses, one in a 7-4 decision to William Parker from Truett-McConnell and the other in a 12-6 decision to Max Underwood from West Virginia Tech to take sixth place.
Wilkinson Saul took a fourth-place finish in the 285-pound division. Saul started the day with a 23-second fall over Reginald Whyte from Pikeville (Ky.), before slipping in a 2:51 pin to No. 4 Gabe Jacobs. Saul picked up another win with a 5-0 decision win over Jeff Bowles from West Virginia Tech, before dropping a 7-3 decision loss to Gavin Harper in the third-place match.
At the 141-pound weight class,
Kullum Irvin started his day with a 4-2 decision over Truett-McConnell's Frankie Salcedo. Irvin fell in his second match to No. 4 Tyree Johnson from Life in a 16-0 tech fall, before picking up a 19-2 tech fall over West Virginia Tech's Corbyn Cunningham. Irvin ended his day with a 19-2 tech fall loss to No. 10 Thomas Williams from St. Thomas.
Conner Wright also wrestled in the 141-pound weight class. Wright started the tournament with a pin in 4:11 over Cunningham, before dropping the second match in a 19-2 tech fall loss against No. 5 Kael Brisker from Southeastern (Fla.) and the third to Truett-McConnell's Salcedo in a 5:51 fall.
Bradley Owens took on the 149-pound division and started the day with a 17-2 tech fall loss to No. 4 Parker Dobrocky from Southeastern. Owens picked up a 10-3 decision win over Tagge Fry from Pikeville in his second match, before falling in a 1:16 pin to CJ Shadlinger from Reinhardt to end the day.
Crawford took on the 184-pound division. To start the day, Crawford took a 14-4 major decision loss to Estaban Hoyos from St. Thomas. Crawford was able to pick up an injury default win in the second match, before falling to teammate Henkel in a 2:42 fall.

Jesus Grijalva, and
Levi Shaw competed but did not pick up any team points.
The Barons are hopeful to earn another national qualifying bid for the NAIA National Tournament alongside Houston. The announcement for individual qualifiers will be released in the coming days.
