MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Men's Basketball returned to familiar territory with a home contest against Thomas (Ga.) on Saturday afternoon.

The Barons (6-11, 2-7 SSAC) fell to the Night Hawks (7-9, 6-4 SSAC) in Gillis Gymnasium in a 77-64 loss.

How It Happened | First Half

Justin Boston and the Barons broke open the game roughly 90 seconds in with a three-pointer to put BPC up early. The Night Hawks answered with a layup and a trey of their own to take a 5-3 lead with 17:46 on the clock. Brewton-Parker shifted the score to favor a five-point lead as Damarcus Johnson Jr. scored four followed by a three from Zailan Blue for a 7-0 run.

After a trey from the guests, Dre Burroughs took care of a four-point play as he was fouled while netting a bucket from beyond the arc to spark a 12-4 run for BPC. The Barons held a 22-12 lead with 11:27 remaining as Jordan Johnson knocked down a deep-range bucket for Brewton-Parker.

Unfortunately for Brewton-Parker, the Night Hawks heated up while the Barons' attack cooled off. Thomas moved into control of the lead with a huge momentum swing, scoring 16 unanswered points to lead 28-22 with 6:47 to play.

Brewton-Parker battled for the remainder of the half, inching closer to leveling the contest. The Barons closed out the final few minutes by outscoring the Night Hawks 12-8 to cut the deficit down to 36-34 at the break. BPC took advantage of foul calls in the first half, shooting 11-of-13 from the foul line.

How It Happened | Second Half

Thomas opened with a three-pointer to take a 39-34 lead early before Blue hit a responding three nearly two minutes late to pull the Barons back to a two-point difference. After a jumper from the Night Hawks at the 17:04 mark, Blue hit treys at the 16:46 mark and the 15:30 mark to advance Brewton-Parker forward to a 43-41 advantage.

The Night Hawks swiftly responded with a quick trip down the floor and a trey to shift the lead in their favor. Brewton-Parker found a bucket from Johnson Jr. at the 14:41 mark to give the Barons a one-point edge but that was the last lead for BPC.

Thomas answered with a 9-1 run over the next couple of minutes to move to a 53-46 lead before Blue was able to knock another trey down for a BPC response. Nearly three minutes of scoreless action would move past before the Night Hawks put in a five-point addition to the tally by taking care of miscues from the Barons, leading 58-49 with 9:37 to play.

Dre Burroughs hit two deep balls to help spark some life into the Barons as part of an 8-2 swing to pull BPC to just a 60-57 deficit with less than seven minutes remaining. Brewton-Parker was unable to continue the momentum shift as Thomas netted seven unanswered points within a minute to move to a double-figure advantage.

Brewton-Parker tried to battle through late in the game, but Thomas held onto a 10-7 scoring stretch to secure a win in Mount Vernon. The Night Hawks finished the half scoring 41 points for a 77-64 final score.

• BPC shot 30.6% (19-of-62) from the field, 36.4% (12-of-33) from three, and 77.8% (14-of-18) from the foul line.
• Blue led the charge for BPC with 19 points, shooting 6-of-13 from three while snagging five rebounds as well.
• Johnson Jr. scored 13 while Burroughs scored 10.
• A total of four individual Barons gathered six boards each off the glass.
• Lance Smith produced five assists to tie the game-high with Thomas' Jailin Lee.
