BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Brewton-Parker men's track & field competed at the SSAC Indoor Track & Field Championship on Monday in Birmingham, Alabama.
The Barons notched a total of 131.5 team points to land third in the final team results. Nathan Shields notched a first-place finish in the pole vault to highlight the Barons' trip. Alongside Shields, three other individuals earned podium placements as well as one BPC relay team.
In the pole vault, Shields recorded a mark of 4.30m to land in the top spot followed by Rhett Harris in third with a mark of 3.00m and Ethan Hammett in fourth with a mark of 2.70m. Hammett also produced a second-place finish in the high jump with a jump of 1.95m. Bobby Terrell and Ryder Sasser claimed a few points alongside Hammett in the high jump as well.
Malik Brown notched two podium placements with a second-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 14.19m followed by a third-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 12.78m. Kohlman Greer, Kanye Fouch, and Daniel Smith all earned team points in the weight throw with top-10 finishes while Matthew Moore and Greer notched team points in the shot put.
Both Derrick Reid and Jace Upshur notched some points for BPC in the triple jump, earning seventh and eighth, respectively. Jacob Worrell also gathered the final team point in the long jump with an eighth-place finish.
For the relays and medleys, BPC finished third in the 4x800m with Jordan Hackett, Mason Smith, Chris Smith, and Eric Smith recording a time of 9:13.19. The group of Hackett, DeMario Thomas, Jabril Muhammad, and Briley Reyes earned fourth with a time of 11:46.47 in the 4,000m distance medley with Thomas, Reyes, Harris, and Shields also competing in the 4x400m with a time of 3:55.32 for fifth.
The trio of Jamon Tymes, Calab Williams, and Me'khi Gibson finished the 60m hurdles in fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively. Tymes raced a time of 8.55 followed by Williams with a time of 8.91 and Gibson's 8.99 finish.
Jacob Hackenberry notched some team points in the 5,000m run, finishing in sixth with a time of 16:46.84. He also snagged sixth in the 3,000m run with a time of 9:47.57. Reyes and Hunter Milhollin raced in the mile with Reyes earning seventh and Milhollin earning eighth.
Muhammad, Thomas, and Reyes all earned points in the 1,000m run with Muhammad and Hackett earning team points in the 800m Event. Thomas and Smith finished with team points in the 600m race while Warren Hollis competed in the 400m dash, earning a few points for the Barons. NiShawn Wise earned some points with his sixth-place finish in the 200m dash with Ty'Sheem Denton picking up a point in the 60m dash with his eighth-place finish.
The Barons will return to the track next week at the RADD Collegiate Last Chance Qualifier.
