AUGUSTA, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Men's Basketball competed in exhibition action on Thursday with an early 11 a.m. ET contest at NCAA Division II opponent Augusta (Ga.).
While the Barons (4-9) were playing with the exhibition tag, the Jaguars (5-2) played the game as a countable contest, defeating BPC, 86-73.
How It Happened
After early back-and-forth action, the Jaguars moved to an 18-6 lead in the first four minutes of action and led by double figures for the remainder of the first half.
Grant Sanders led the half with 13 points while going 3-for-7 from the floor and 7-for-8 from the charity stripe.
Sanders also snagged a game-leading seven boards to help give the Barons a 23-14 advantage off the glass in the first 20 minutes of play.
Lance Smith produced eight points with a perfect 6-of-6 from the foul line, dishing three assists out as well.
Augusta closed out the first half with a 48-31 lead, shooting for 47.4% (18-of-38) from the floor, 52.6% (10-of-19) from beyond the arc, and 100% (2-of-2) from the foul line. Brewton-Parker finished the first installment of play by shooting for 29.2% (7-of-24) from the field, 16.7% (1-of-6) from three, and 80% (16-of-20) from the charity stripe.
Sanders opened the second half with an "and-one" play for the Barons nearly two minutes into action. Augusta held onto a substantial double-digit lead for most of the second half until a mid-half surge from the Barons knocked down the lead.
A trey from
Dre Burroughs at the 11:29 mark sparked a 10-4 run from BPC. Burroughs capped the run off with a three-pointer at the 8:50 mark to cut the deficit down to nine points, putting the Barons behind 62-53.
The Jaguars responded with six unanswered points in two minutes to shift back into a 15-point edge, but Burroughs' hot hand continued to produce for the Barons, scoring two more threes in response.
After falling to a 79-63 deficit with 2:30 on the clock, Brewton-Parker responded with seven points led by Burroughs and Sanders, moving back within a nine-point game with 90 seconds to play. The Jaguars were able to finish 7-3 down the stretch to seal the victory over the Barons.
Brewton-Parker outscored Augusta 42-38 in the second half with Burroughs leading the charge with 18 total points followed by Sanders with 11.

- Sanders led the Barons with a double-double performance, scoring 24 points and gathering 10 boards.
- Burroughs scored 18 points and picked up seven rebounds while Smith scored 17 and finished with three assists as well as five rebounds.
- Augusta took advantage of BPC's 21 turnovers, gathering 12 steals and scoring 28 points off turnovers.
