DALTON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Men's Basketball traveled to North Georgia to take on cross-state foe and fellow Southern States Athletic Conference member, Dalton State (Ga.) on Saturday afternoon.
The Barons (4-7, 0-3 SSAC) struggled against the Roadrunners (5-3, 3-0 SSAC) in a 98-69 loss on the road.
How It Happened | First Half
Dalton State opened with a three-pointer nearly a minute into the contest before
Zsolt Boros managed to give Brewton-Parker their first bucket of the afternoon. BPC leveled the game twice with a jumper from
Lance Smith at the 18:01 mark followed by a score from
Chris Spenkuch with 17:35 on the clock.
Spenkuch ended up giving the Barons the lead with an "and-one" and sparked a 7-2 run for the visitors to take a 13-9 lead with 15:21 to play in the half. The Roadrunners responded with a huge 10-point swing over five minutes of play to lead 19-13.
Dre Burroughs knocked down a trey with 11 minutes on the clock to cut the deficit down to a one-possession game. Dalton State continued to answer, moving to an eight-point advantage with nine minutes left.
A three-point play from
Grant Sanders at the 8:48 mark moved the deficit to five points. BPC managed to move the Dalton State lead down to five two more times with a jumper from Smith at the 7:10 mark and a three from
Jordan Johnson at the 5:07 mark.
Unfortunately, that was the closest the Barons would get to the Roadrunners. Dalton State took control for the remainder of the half, cruising to a 46-36 lead at the break by outscoring Brewton-Parker 14-9 in the final five minutes.
How It Happened | Second Half
Dalton State held on to a double-figure advantage for the entire second half, besting Brewton-Parker 52-33 in the second installment. The Barons were able to cut the deficit down to 10 points several times early, but the Roadrunners would not seem to budge.
After BPC managed to pull the deficit down to 10 with 7:34 to play, DSC went on an 11-0 run over a three-minute span, taking advantage of an offensive drought from the Barons. Smith scored with four to play, breaking the drought, yet the Roadrunners were able to close out the game with a 13-3 run to secure a 98-69 victory.

- Smith led the offensive efforts for the Barons with 19 points and four assists.
- Burroughs followed with 15 points while Grant Sanders nearly notched a double-double with 10 rebounds and nine points.
- BPC won the rebounding battle with a 41-36 advantage.
- Turnovers hurt BPC as the Barons gave up 17 turnovers while DSC took advantage for 12 steals.
