FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – Brewton-Parker College Men's Wrestling traveled to the campus of Emmanuel College (Ga.) in Franklin Springs, Ga. for the Georgia Open on Sunday, bringing 13 Barons to represent the program.
The day was highlighted by a seventh-place finish from
Justin Grant in the 174-pound weight class. Grant started his tournament with a 10-0 major decision, before taking a 12-8 decision loss. Grant won his next three matches by fall (1:28), decision (7-3), and a tech fall (20-3), but fell in the consolation semis by a 12-7 decision. In the last match of the day, Grant took a no-contest win for a 5-2 record on the day.
Gavin Daniels finished his day with a 6-2 record in the 149-pound division. After starting the tournament with a loss by pin (4:49), Daniels went on a six-match win streak, winning two by tech fall (17-1 and 20-3), one by fall (4:56), one major decision (16-4), one decision (9-8), and one match by medical forfeit.
Bradley Owens also competed in the 149-pound division, finishing the tournament 1-2. Owens won his match in a 3-2 decision.
Robert Keyhea took a 1-2 record in the 157-pound weight class, taking his lone win by injury default. In the 184-pound division,
Thomas Crawford gathered a pin in 6:30.
Jomar Sanchez also produced a 1-2 record, taking a 10-3 decision win in the 197-pound weight class.
