MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Men's Basketball hosted Toccoa Falls (Ga.) on Tuesday night for a challenge in Gillis Gymnasium.
The Barons (1-1) slipped away to the Screaming Eagles (2-0) in a close battle that ended in a 110-102 loss at home.
How It Happened | First Half
Toccoa Falls came out with a swift 11-2 run in the first minute and a half of action with
Lance Smith and
Grant Sanders helping pull the deficit down to four points with 15:57 on the clock.
The Screaming Eagles put the Barons on the ropes early with another convincing run, outscoring BPC 15-1 over the next three minutes to hold a 26-8 advantage. An "and-one" trip to the basket for Sanders sparked a 14-3 run from Brewton-Parker that was led by six points from
Jordan Johnson which cut the deficit down to seven points with less than eight minutes to play.
Brewton-Parker fought hard with back-forth-play to cut the deficit under double figures several times in the final moments. However, Toccoa Falls surged late with 10 points in the last 90 seconds to close out the half with a 55-37 lead.
How It Happened | Second Half
Toccoa Falls held onto a double-digit lead for most of the second half and even managed to extend out to a 20-plus point advantage three minutes into the second period.
Brewton-Parker battled and fought its way back into the game late, surging into an 8-2 run capped by an "and-one" from Smith with three minutes to play.
Dre Burroughs began producing some clutch points for BPC, netting seven points in the final three minutes to aid in pulling the Barons within a two-score contest. Unfortunately, that was not enough as several late turnovers and missed offensive opportunities doomed BPC in the eight-point loss.

- Toccoa Falls' long-range threat was a thorn in Brewton-Parker's side as the visitors converted 17-of-37 attempts from beyond the arc for 45.9%.
- BPC finished the night shooting for 46.1% (35-of-76) from the floor, 31.8% (7-of-22) from three, and 61% (25-of-41) from the charity stripe.
- Johnson and Burroughs led the charge in scoring as Johnson bagged 24 points followed by Burroughs with 22 points as well as a team-leading three steals.
- Smith recorded 17 points and seven assists while Zailan Blue scored 10 points.
- Sanders nearly notched a double-double with nine points and 13 boards.
