MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker men's basketball returned home to familiar territory on Thursday night with an SSAC contest against Middle Georgia in Gillis Gymnasium.
The Barons (3-12, 2-6 SSAC) landed shy of the Knights (7-6, 3-4 SSAC) in a tough 78-74 battle.
How It Happened | 1st Half
- Middle Georgia opened the first three minutes of play with an 11-3 run before Brewton-Parker answered with a 7-2 run highlighted by a pair of jumpers from Kenny Colwell to pull within a one-possession game with 15:02 left in the half.
- The Knights responded by jumping to an 18-10 lead with 12:57 remaining, but the Barons scored seven unanswered points over the span of three minutes to knock the deficit down to just one point.
- After falling to a four-point deficit, Brewton-Parker managed to eventually pull back to just a one-point deficit with a trey from Aaron Udell with 7:39 on the clock.
- Middle Georgia moved back to an eight-point advantage just a couple of minutes later, but the Barons were able to battle to get back within a one-score reach to close out the half down 39-36.
How It Happened | 2nd Half
- Damarcus Johnson Jr. knocked down a jumper to open things up for BPC, moving the deficit to just one point.
- The Barons began the half with seven points in the first four minutes to level the score at 43-43 before Lance Smith converted a jumper at 16:07 to give BPC a two-point lead.
- Both teams traded scoring trips as well as control of the score for a few possessions before the Knights leveled the game at 47-47 with 15:19 left in the game.
- Middle Georgia took control of the lead with two three-pointers and did not relinquish the lead for the rest of the night.
- MGA managed to build up to a nine-point edge with just over eight minutes to play.
- Brewton-Parker fought back to bring the deficit down to just two points two times down the stretch, but Middle Georgia was able to hold on for the 78-74 win.

- Brewton-Parker shot for 36.4% (24-of-66) from the field and struggled from beyond the arc by shooting for just 15.6% (5-of-32) from three while shooting 61.8% (21-of-34) from the charity stripe.
- Four Barons found double-digit points on the night with Johnson Jr leading with 18 followed by Smith with 17, Colwell with 13, and Robert Hardy with 10.
- Emmanuel Green led the game with 11 of BPC's 46 rebounds helping the Barons produce a nine-point edge over the Knights off the glass.
- Smith notched three of the Barons' nine assists with Grant Sanders snagging three of the Barons' 10 steals and two blocks.
Other Notables
- Both teams were level with 12 turnovers each while the Knights edged out the Barons 11-10 in steals.
