GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Brewton-Parker men's track & field returned to competition this week with a two-day event at the RADD College Invitational in Gainesville, Florida.
The Barons opened the meet on Thursday afternoon and wrapped things up with a full slate of events on Friday.
BPC produced six top-15 finishes on the opening day in a field comprised of 12 college programs and several athletic clubs. The Triple jumped proved to be the highlight of Thursday with a pair of top-10 finishes as Derrick Reid finished 7th with a mark of 12.21 meters followed by Jace Upshur in 9th with a mark of 11.95m.
Briley Reyes competed in the men's 1,000-meter race, finishing in 9th with a time of 2:52.55. In the pole vault, Rhett Harris recorded a height of 2.85 meters for 13th. Lastly, DeMario Thomas and Jordan Hackett, both found themselves within the final 15 of the 600-meter event. Thomas raced in a time of 1:31.06 for 14th followed by Hackett in 15th with a time of 1:33.06
For Friday, a bunch of BPC student-athletes competed in a total of seven events with Malik Brown highlighting the day with a 1st-place finish in the weight throw, recording a time of 13.93 meters. Kohlman Greer followed in the event with a 3rd-place finish, throwing a mark of 13.23 meters.
Both Kanye Fouch and Daniel Smith notched top-10 performances with Fouch landing at 6th with a mark of 11.08m followed by Smith with a mark of 11.75m. As for the rest of the throws, Matthew Moore led with a 4th-place performance in the shot put, throwing 11.98m followed by Greer in 5th with a mark of 11.62m. Brown and Smith rounded out the shot put with an 11.46m performance coming from Brown for 7th while Smith notched 11.31m for 9th.
On the track, Bradley Taylor led the way with a 5th-place finish in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.55s followed by Jamon Tymes in 7th with a time of 8.83s. Ty'Sheem Denton picked up a 7th-place finish in the 60m dash with a time of 7.01s. The 4x400m relay team of Denton, Warren Hollis, Caleb Whitehead, and Taylor finished with a time of 3:37.84 for 7th.
For the jumps, Ethan Hammett finished 7th in the high jump with a mark of 1.85m while Ryder Sasser jumped for 1.75m for 9th followed by Bobby Terrell in 10th with a jump of 1.70m. Hammett also picked up 7th in the long jump with a mark of 6.22m while Jacob Worrell jumped for 6.09m for 9th.
The Barons will return to action next week at the Alachua County Collegiate Invitational back in Gainesville.
