WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Brewton-Parker men's basketball returned to the court on Thursday afternoon with the first of two contests at the SSAC/SUN Challenge on the campus of Keiser University in West Palm Beach, Fla.
The Barons (3-9) faced the hosts in one of the final contests of the 2022 calendar year. Brewton-Parker battled against the Seahawks (8-5) in a tough game, but Keiser was able to hold on to the lead down the stretch.
How It Happened | 1st Half
- Keiser started the game with an 8-0 run over the course of the opening five and half minutes before Chance Hatcher knocked down a trey for the Barons' first score of the game at the 13:09 mark.
- The Seahawks followed up with an 11-4 run in about three minutes of play to lead 19-7 with 9:14 on the clock.
- Despite falling to a double-digit deficit, Brewton-Parker eventually pulled the deficit into the single digits by outscoring Keiser 12-9 in roughly two and a half minutes.
- Three-pointers from Damarcus Johnson Jr. and Kenny Colwell pulled BPC back to just nine points behind KU with 6:27 remaining in the half.
- Over the next three minutes, Keiser responded with an 11-5 run to lead 39-24 with just over three minutes left on the clock.
- Brewton-Parker closed out the half with a 6-0 run capped by a tip-in from Antrell Williams at the 0:38 mark to pull BPC's deficit down to nine points at the break with Keiser leading 39-30.
How It Happened | 2nd Half
- The Seahawks moved to a double-figure lead to open the second half.
- Lance Smith scored six of the Barons' first seven points of the half to help pull the deficit to nine with 14:06 left on the clock.
- Keiser responded with a 9-2 run to pull away to a 55-39 lead with 11:46 on the clock.
- Brewton-Parker returned with a 9-0 run over a few minutes of play with a three-pointer from Jordan Johnson to cap it off as BPC found themselves just seven points back with 8:43 remaining.
- The Barons were unable to pull back within single figures beyond the 6:17 mark, as Keiser led 59-51.
- The Seahawks managed to hold the Barons to just five points in the final six minutes of action while scoring 13 points to close out the game with a 72-56 advantage.
Inside The Statistics
- BPC shot for 32.3% from the field (20-of-62), 21.4% from three (6-of-28), and 66.7% (10-of-15) from the charity stripe.
- Smith led the scoring efforts for BPC with 18 points followed by Ferlin Joseph's double-double performance, scoring 10 points and snagging 12 rebounds.
- Smith also led the Barons with four assists and three steals.
- The Seahawks held a 46-35 advantage off the glass.

- Keiser outscored Brewton-Parker34-22 in the paint and held a 15-9 advantage in second-chance points.
- The Barons led 20-14 in points off turnovers on eight steals.
