LAURINBURG, N.C. – Brewton-Parker men's wrestling traveled to Lauringburg, North Carolina to take on St. Andrews (N.C.) and Coker (S.C.) in a tri-dual on Friday.
The Barons' trip began with a loss to Coker but was highlighted by a 33-15 win over St. Andrews.
Against Coker, the Barons fell in a 27-17 loss. McFarland (125) picked up a win before Henry (133) fell by a pin. After giving up the 141lb match, Brewton-Parker gathered a six-point boost to level the score at 12-12 with Bradley Owens earning a pin at 149.
In the 157lb match, Bryant Santiago was defeated with a pin to give the Cobras a six-point edge over the Barons. Kullum Irvin picked up a loss in the 165lb bout to give Coker a 21-12 lead with four bouts remaining.
Dominic Martinez took a defeat in the 174lb match in a 5-1 decision to move the Cobras' lead to a 12-point edge. Charlie Henkel produced a tight 9-8 decision win in the 184lb bout to add to the Barons' point total before Ethan Larsen added another three in an 11-4 decision at 197, moving BPC's total to 18.
In the final match, Wilkinson Saul (285) fell in a tight decision to drop the final three points to move Coker's total to 27. BPC dropped a team point at the end which moved the final score to 27-17.
Brewton-Parker opened the dual against the Knights with falls from McFarland (125) and Henry (133) to start with a 12-0 advantage. St. Andrews found themselves just six points back with a forfeit win in the 141lb match.
Owens boosted the lead to a nine-point edge with a 6-3 decision in the 149lb bout. At 157, Santiago produced a pin to give the Barons a 21-6 lead. During the 165lb bout, Irvin was knocked off in a 7-2 decision just before Martinez fell in a 13-6 decision in the 174lb match.
With a 21-12 lead, Brewton-Parker picked up a pair of pins from Henkel (184) and Larsen (197) to jump out to a 21-point advantage with one final match. In the 285lb match, Tevin Person fell in a 3-0 decision to give the Knights their final three points sealing the dual at 33-15.
Brewton-Parker hosts Truett McConnell on Wednesday for a conference matchup in Gillis Gymnasium.
